It's Chili Time!

Cornbread (or masa) is commonly used as a thickener. I don't personally, but it's a "normal" ingredient.

Hey folks -

I have a lot of wild boar, and need a good recipe for a flavorful chili that is not spicy - the wife and daughter do not go for hot.

Anyone got a good basic recipe for me?

That's a difficult request. I had in-laws who were from Indiana (no offense meant to my AK-Hoosier friends), and they though black pepper was a dangerous chemical that should be listed as a federally controlled substance. My folks, OTOH, ate jalapenos like popcorn.

You might try a mix like Wick Fowler's False-Alarm Chili Kit.

I love cornbread with chili.

A variation on Chili Pie is cornbread in the bottom of a bowl with chili ladled on top. Yummo!

I chop up a few jalapeno slices and mix it in with the cornbread batter. Gives it a little zing.

I very rarely eat a bowl of chili without a side of cornbread.

There is currently a tub of the last batch of Texas Red sitting in the sink thawing out. It's destined for chili-dogs though.

Oops, I meant eating chili with cornbread separately, not as an ingredient.
