Well Folks, I started My new job this morning as a State Inspection Mechanic for a major car dealer.
My old job I was on call whenever they needed a car inspected.
(mainly towards the end of the month)
Yer Paycheck have the Ol Lady lookin at Ya like a Roach. :sigh:

So NO, I didn't worry about giving em a 2 week notice...And My old Boss is like :gigglemad.
I interviewed Tuesday and they needed Me to start Today...Hadda roll with it.
(a lotta folks are off on the weekend and they bring their cars in for simple service)
Here at My new job, I get at least 30 hours a week at full mechanic's pay.
Changin tires, Oil Changes, Replacing Switches and other stuff to get the trade in cars inspected for resell.
I already know most of the other Mechanics that work here.
(Yeah...They pulled My new Boss's coat tail for Me)

YES! :yes:...But I'm still gonna be checkin at the local thrift store for My audio stuff though. :scratch2:

I've never given two weeks notice. I normally just toss the truck keys and CC on the Bossman's desk, while my better half waits in the parking lot.

Burning bridges is never a good road in my book, however sometimes you need to do what you need to do. I would not apply back to your old employer, if it does not work out.

In this day and age how many employers are there who do NOT screw you? I haven't seen many myself. That's part of the deal. No?

It takes a kind, honest, compassionate owner to care about his/her employees and there are fewer and fewer and fewer of those all the time. It's a shame, really.

And there are just as many employees who just want to collect a paycheck, health benefits, a 401K, vacation, and all the sick days they can accumulate without putting any more effort into their job than is necessary because the world owes it to them.

Really? I seriously doubt your assertion. There just aren't that many employees around anymore who can afford to take the position you claim they can. I and thousands like me work our tails off everyday just because there's a job to be done, and somebody has to do it...well. We're well paid because of what we do, not in spite of it. I'm proud of my work...and my work ethic. Nobody owes me anything other than what I've earned. And I'm Libertarian and Union organized.

I finally just last month had my first HELL NO experience with a dealership.

But good on ya for finding steady work. Now just be honest and don't pump the customers for money (however chances are it'll be somebody ELSE pumping the customers for money).

Many of us hard workers who labor hard, near nonstop for low pay to an uncaring boss because it's the way we were raised and tought. Maybe it's a good thing we'll about over that hill

The way I see it is you left an uncertain job (being on call) for a much more solid proposition...regular hours and a bigger paycheck. If your former boss does not understand and at least empathize with you on that issue then he is the one with the problem....It is nice to give notice but sometimes you have to seize a better opportunity when one comes along.

Yeah, you're right. All bosses are @$$holes, and all employees are pistol whipped slaves.

I played the game of getting the college education and going into the work force. After about 10 years, I went into business for myself. I figured I was just as smart as any boss I had, and I could do a job better than most employees I worked with. The only thing holding me back was myself, if I allowed it. And I didn't need a union to fight my battles for me. They only have your best interest in mind while getting paid to do it.

Well, I told Him on Tuesday when the new job hired Me.
This is what He said and I qoute "So what in the Hell do You expect Me to Do when I need a car inspected?"
I kinda muttered that I was sorry and that I gotta look out for Myself and My Family.
He did write Me out my last Paycheck and said "Well go on, Git outta Here"

Boss man must cover his ass to his boss and protect the bottom line.
He needs good people but is under the gun to "save money".

Define "Bad Employer." If you mean inconsiderate, unfair, nasty, unappreciative, I'd have to agree with you; it's not worth the stress. Screwing an employee out of money is a different story IMO.

Good point about emotional energy. I thought that way at one time & let my first employer get away with it.

I changed my mind when I realized I spent MORE emotional energy thinking about how I let someone screw me over & make me feel foolish. After that, I made THEM feel foolish.

Well in My case it was more about MONEY than revenge of any kind.
Thats why I'd really prefer My own garage.
I'd get Me a coupla good workers and I wouldn't Screw anybody.
Going to school to become a State Inspector costs about $300 bucks.
Jeez, if My former employer was thinkin He could pay for one of His fulltime workers to take the Class.

I like my boss I like my job I work my ass off we are a profit share company. Most of us hate the 1 or 2 who milk the time card or otherwise screw the company. The boss is not a warm and fuzzy kind of guy but is very fair and has done some amazing things to help out employees in trouble (loans etc.)

Been there 9 construction seasons hope to be there another 13 years
