People living in the country are more likely to get smashed mailboxes. They get tired of buying them and come up with creative ways to save money.
My Uncle used to use old 5 gallon buckets.
One person's "trailer trash Hell " is another's repurposed broken appliance. The microwave is a great idea. Should last a long time. Even the most degenerate mailbox basher would likely skip it.
