JansZen did not make non-stat speakers. The series was built under license by Neshimany (sp?) who tied their woofer to Art's state tweeter. If you have a lead on a pair in nice condition grab them. The power supply and crossovers usually need to be rebuilt but not something beyond the average persons' knowledge. Some of the models used the stat in a dipole mod, not sure if the 800 was one.

Here's what I have on the JZ-800 speaker.

The JZ series was not the same as the Z series. From memory the JZ series was introduced shortly before the company shut down production. It and ZansZen got into a dispute over the license agreement. Apparently, he gave away more than he thought he had in issuing them the license. It was one reason. While having had I think every version of the J series, I've never seen in real life any of the JZ series. Do you have a line on a pair? They would be quite rare and should make for an interesting item. I always liked the company's woofer.

yes i am suppossed to pick them up tomorrow evening
along with some kenwood electronics.
so far i like what i see and hoping i like what i hear lol.

Not really Janszen

I didn't know about this Neshaminy model, myself, until Mike brought it up. Fascinating find, and as Brian points out, must be very rare.

The ESL's and support electronics accounted for a lion's share of the build cost in the JansZen Electrostatic line, and one can't blame the folks at Neshaminy for eliminating them in its effort to market a budget priced speaker on the heels of the mid-70's stagflation recession.

As you can see from the spec sheet, the issue about it lacking any JansZen parts seems to have been partially settled by stating that it was " . . . by the makers of JansZen Electrostatic", rather than an actual JansZen Electrostatic, although I can see that the misleading model number remained.

Thanks to Ed In Texas for the pics and poop sheet.

david thanks for your responce to my e-mail.
as you seen i found out it's not a janszen model but neshaminy model.

i pick them up tonight and will post pics and my opinion on them even though i'm not an audiophile by any means i love the older stuff for the sound and build quality either it be speakers or componants the newer stuff (1980 on or so)to me can't touch the older stuff.

well as promised here they are.
i even got the spec sheet and warranty sheet with them.
missing the nameplates on the grills but overall in good shape.

they sound pretty good considering they are hooked to an old rotel rx-400 receiver.

does anyone have a clue as to what the value is on these speakers?.
i've looked allover and cannot find another pair anywhere that have been sold.

is there anyplace that caters to neshaminy speakers?

As these are just not seen, I doubt there is a market price history for them. Considering the company's main product does not fetch high prices these probably are not going to fetch much interest. There may be more value in the woofer than the entire speaker if the woofer corresponds to a woofer used in one of the e'stat models. Why are you thinking of selling them? Before you do, open them up and change the caps as they are old enough to be out of spec and see how they sound. The woofer was not the bastion of detail and neutrality but better than a lot of other woofers of the time. The company seemed to have had a knack in the design. I never saw or heard the tweeter and that might be interesting to get a review of along with the speaker. I AM NOT SUGGESTING PARTING THEM OUT! Sorry for shouting but, I want make it clear that even if there is more value in the parts than the whole, the speaker is intersting enough and so seldom seen, if ever, that it would be a shame to destroy them for a few dollars if they are functional.

well the only reason i'm thinking of getting rid of them is i like to crank my music from time to time and i don't want to ruin these by doing that.
they sound great as they are don't get me wrong but seeing that i cannot find any real info on these (other than what i've gotten here) and they do seem pretty rare i'd rather they go to someone that collects speakers like these before i mess them up trying to push them too far.
i love the old stuff but these are just not for me right now.

here's a few pics for those that would like to see how these were made.
it looks like the tweeter was put together in 2 peices while being installed in the cabinet. the magnet on the back of the tweeter is too big to fit through the hole so they will not come out. i think that is why there is a phillips screw in the center of the tweeter and then they put the black cloth over it.

Pretty simple network. I don't recognize the tweeter. It is a shame you aren't considering a trip to Toronto anytime soon. I'd see if there was something on the shelf you'd be interested in trading for.

lol i have family in upstate n.y but thats about as far north as i go.
i'd definetly do some trading for them though.

ps i'd make the trip for one of those mac's lol.
