JBL 2500s?

Hey guys I picked up a couple JBL 2500s at a garage sale today.
Really nice looking little bookshelf speakers... anyone own/owned them? how were they in your opinion? I'm not too savvy when it comes to speakers as I'm more of a headphone guy but these guys only sound a little worse than my Dayton B652s and they just look so pretty... :3. So anyone have 'em?

I have the big brother. The 2800 with the 8 inch woofer. I'm going to try to get around to upgrading the crossover this summer with better parts. I also have the little Dayton speakers also and I can't imagine anything sounding worse than the B652. Hopefully there is nothing wrong with your JBLs. :scratch2:

I was given a pair of 2500's with no expectations. I connected them to my TV setup and a cheapo modern surround sound receiver, what a suprise. These JBL's produce some suprisenly spectacular clarity. Paired with powered sub (cheapo) and they're spot on!

2600's

I used the 2600's in my office rig for about a year. Replaced them with DCM TimePieces. The JBL's sounded quite nice in here and in fact I tried replacing them several times (Minimus 7's, and some other bookshelfs) and they kept sounding better than what I compared them to. I liked them quite a bit so nice find there!

Had some 2500 or 2600's a while back.
They sounded pretty good as I recall.
Adding a sub would give you a decent bedroom or office system.

Had a pair given to me by a neighbor. Surprisingly good but not in the same league as the L20T or L1. Hard to beat for little-to-no money though. Good catch.

I own a pair of 2600s & they are fine speakers. Those 2500s look to be in very good condition. Let your ears be the guide for ya!

Those are the new BAD Daytons (hex vs phillips screws). There is no way the JBLs sound worse unless there are serious issues with them.

I own a pair of bad Dayton's, they only look the part, they sound horrible. I have a boombox I made out of old paper cone speakers in a suitcase that sounds substantially better than a pair of these.

You mean they made some that sound worse than the originals? ...I've tried almost everything to make them sound better than regular computer speakers and I'm about to give up and just get rid of them.

I just got new pair of the BAD Daytons they sound awful I might send them back
I own JBL 2600 and 2800 unless there is something wrong with your 2500's I can't see them sounding worse than the Daytons BUT as others have said keep what sounds best to YOU.

Most think louder and/or more bass speakers are better than those that have great highs/mids but not much bass. :headscrat

What's the difference between the 2500s and 2600s? I got a pair in the garage, but I can't remember which one. Good sounding speakers, I ought to have them out and listen to them more.

Sorry to hijack, but this is the first I've heard of the "bad daytons."

One guy made a vid and now all I've seen an explosion of "oh i got them too."

Something seems weird.

They have different woofers and different crossovers. I think the 2500 has a 5-1/4" woofer and the 2600 a 6-1/2" woofer. Plus the crossover schematics are different.

Well, I read they were supposed to sound much better than the price. What I received is of no value whatsoever in my opinion. I wouldn't pay $5 for them at a yard sale.

They make ok rear surrounds for a HT setup, which is what I have assigned them to. They do nothing good for music though.
