JBL 4344 Value (2405H, 2425J, 2122H, 2235H)

I'm very curious MIKALIS , when you had your 4435's,
and complained of them being torture chamber speakers,
were they in the 11'X9' room???
Because the 100 degree 2344 horns will make that room like a Billiard Table!
And yes cause hearing damage with 300 watts!
Where in a Wide and tall room they will out perform Most other 1" Horns I ever had
I'm pretty sure Greg timbers was involved in all of the 4300 and 4400 series Monitors.
The 4400 series of speakers was JBL's longest produced studio Monitors!
They came after the early blue faced 4300 speakers. And were certainly an improvement!
20 years of production!
4348's are, were a Rarity, and never made the US distribution chain.
Will I go deaf or will my speakers break first? We will find out! I’ll probably never go above 300 watts for safety.

Reminds me of the 4435 “torture chamber speaker” that I had to sell, I call it that because I probably gave myself permanent hearing damage blasting these at 300 watts.

Yes, in the 9x11 room. I guess it would make enough sense.

Unfortunately it’s my biggest room so I’ll never get the chance to experience its full potential.

I tested the 4348s in a 8x8 room, it sounded very good to my ears so I guess it’s slightly more viable. He did acoustically treat the entire roam so it may be different, I just use foam blocks when listening

@Nyjblbob I know you wouldnt believe me but, I've made slight change of plans to pick up some vintage Japanese gear in HK (I heard its quite cheap over there) before heading back to the states and theres a pair of 4344 MK2's for sale!

$34000 (HKD) which converts to $4400, + $300 to crate & pack and ~$1000 to ship, bringing the sum to $5700. Thoughts? I'd be happy to send these back if the price is right, I probably wont see another pair in the states until 2030..

Why wouldn't I believe you?
5700$ is about what a really nice pair of L-300's go for ,In good times!
IMHO there's no comparison! that's still a great price.
I believe your shipping estimates are too low.
Unless you are sharing a 20' or 40' container with someone else!
I know several people who import items from the Far East!
I would further suggest It would serve you Much better
to build a Bigger sound room! At Least 14'X18' W/8' ceilings min.
It's ludicrous putting Giant speakers in a 9' X 11' Room!
A good pair of 12" 3 way bookshelves can overload that Room!
Ask any pro sound guy or seasoned Audiophile.
Come on fellow AK'ers! Am I not correct?
Twiiii, bowtie427ss, GordonW, SaturationPt. ???
bobhorn
PS; I wouldn't sell my 4343's for less than 8K.
My En5's with the large format 2"376's for less than 5500$

Hmmmmm….
I could put the 4344 mk2’s in my other approx 10x10 room and just listen at low volumes, like 25 watts

These are fairly sensitive so it should work fine, they don’t like power as much as the 4348 but can still take a reasonable load (200 watts)

How much do you think shipping will be? Approx 180-190kg across the world

Below is a photo of Frank Zappa
With his pair of 4435’s, In a Huge Treated
Recording studio !
I can’t seem to get through to you that
Big monitors specifically JBLS
Need a Large space!
Jbls Suck at very low levels!
Have you never gone to any high end Audio Shows??? Or even a live concert?
You can’t change the acoustic Laws
I can’t believe you don’t get it.
But hey Have at it if you must!
I would figure double your estimated
Shipping costs and hopefully you can find someone
Qualified to properly pack and Crate those beauties.
And then there is the logistics of Customs,
Tariffs, and then trucking, uncrating ,delivering
and set up

I haven't been to high end shows for a good while now so I don't really remember, never paid too much attention to the sound equipment at concerts

If i really need space I suppose I can try to enlarge the room to around 11x14 but i don't think I can physically go larger, it will have to do for now whether I like it or not. Room is 4.5 meters tall by the way.

I've heard a DD55000 & DD66000 before but they weren't exactly in MASSIVE spaces (somewhere around 12x12 to 15x15) so sound is probably compromised, didn't sound too bad to my ears however

@Nyjblbob Hong Kong has insane gear, saw an avid collector of JBL with almost every single vintage model from the paragon and olympus to the DD55000.

He wants to let his spare copy of his 250Ti go, walnut (I think), literally spotless, I spent 10 minutes staring and couldn’t find any noticeable blemishes. $3k.

Opinions?

It's been a while since I've heard the 250ti. No horns, so not my taste.
May or may not suit your space. a 14" instead of a 15" woofer.
they do have to be out further in the room, for them to Image.
Many that own them prefer them to L-300's.
They are known to be Power Hungry.
The Teak veneer is also quite nice.
3K is what really nice ones go for here.
So it makes No sense to pay for the export of them.
The Tweeters have a service issue.
17' ceilings?? Jeez
Might actually help some of the Big Monitors
if mounted in the corners On the ceilings.
talk about a challenge! Makes me Laugh just thinking about it:crazy:

Wonder if mounting them involves drilling holes in cabinets....
If so im good

I like to preserve my stuff as original in good condition, not for resale but just so i feel good about it
Yeah, dont know why but my house came with tall ceilings
Should help a bit regardless

Cant wait to get back to run my 4348s
Just curious, how much do DD55000s go for?
I think they might overpower my room but they are my dream speakers, fell in love at first sight. I prefer the design way over the DD66/67000

I was just spitballing on flying the 200 Lb monitors!
It would make making slight adjustments,
needed to get the sound right an absolute nightmare.
They could be made to fly with through Bolts and eye hooks
on the backs, leaving the veneer intact,
But Few have the know how to do it, correctly.
I would not recommend it at all.
The DD5500's are pretty dam Rare, and pretty big!
I never heard or saw a pair. They use an odd shaped horn,
that is quite one sided. Not good for a small room.
the 4349's, and bigger 4367's along with the K2' Lines are the better smaller alternative.
For your small room

Guess who’s back

I’m running these with mc2500 and a borrowed Pioneer C5, the sound is simply wow.

I’d have to say it molests the 4345 in sound quality

I’d be very hard pressed to find anything that sounds better below $20-30k new nowadays!

Only other speaker I want would be a pair of nice SF trainheads or Guarneri Homage for my bedroom. They do go for a lil too much nowadays so I guess I’ll wait until I see a cheap one

By the way, any preamp recommendations for this baby? I’m thinking a tube preamp with a good strong SS (mac) would bring the heat out of this.

thoughts on something like a HK Citation I / IV? Much cheaper than c20 and Marantz model 7 nowadays. Also I don’t like McIntosh products with too much glass
