JBL 4410 vs 4412 vs 4410a vs 4412a

yeah, it would.. but I have done that in the past and there was a pretty big drop in signal strength.. Want to avoid that.

You are talking about a "distribution amplifier", a one-to-many device. Basically a box that isolates the driver from the loads of the drivees so the level won't drop...

I have a rack-mount one that takes a pair of balanced or unbalanced line level signals and drives them into 10 pairs of RCA jacks.

Look up "voltage follower". It's a very simple circuit to build, it only needs one dual op-amp, a few resistors and the bipolar power supply, plus the jacks or cables to connect it, maybe a box to put it in.

Right on. The DIY thing might be cool, but I've never built any kind of circuit before. Does someone sell a kit?

If I wanted to purchase one already made, is it simple enought that they are all close in quality or are there some brands to stay away from? ..right now, I can't think of why I would need one with any more than a stereo input and 2 stereo outputs.

Look at the Presonus Monitor Station or Mackie Big Knob monitor controllers. I just bought the Presonus - it is passive save for the aux/phono input and the headphone amps.

Allows for 3 sets of monitors/amps plus a cue mix, and 3 sources plus a cue source.

A few years late to this thread but I thought I'd chime in. I've had a pair of 4410As for the past few years and love them. I've also owned 4408s and 4311Bs. The 4311Bs had great low bass that I could crank with the bass knob on my Luxman L-100.

The JBL 4410As can definitely crank similar bass, but for those low notes (and for the longevity of the woofer) if you really want to get smooth, accurate sound below 50hz—and want to run your amp with flat equalization—you'll need a sub. I recommend getting two if you can...I was able to get two Acoustech H-100s on Craigslist for less than $200 and they really effortlessly fill out the low end. Originally I cut them off at 80hz but after reading this thread I decided to try trimming that down to ~50hz...really helped clean up the sound.

And as far as clarity the 4410As are super accurate. Sometimes I'll find myself turning the treble slightly down, but typically use the "Pure Direct" feature on my Yamaha A-S801 integrated amp.

You can usually find a pair for less than $300, which is an absolute steal. Sure, they aren't the prettiest (and they ain't small), but if you want clean sound from low to seriously painful volumes there really isn't a better option for the price point. Just make sure you have at least 100 legit watts of power, and fresh woofer surrounds, and they'll last you for decades.
