JBL 4412 value?

Needing a little advise on value of some JBL 4412 speakers. I am guessing like everything else location has a lot to do with price? I have bought two Crown PS 400 from this seller before. I have not seen the speaker's. But I totally trust him from last transaction. He says drivers are perfect, one small scratch on one cabinet. He is asking 400 dollars for the pair and I would have to drive 2 hours one way to get them. I have never listened to any JBL speakers! I believe they are power hungry from what I have read. I have Yamaha some m70's x3, M80, M65, a bgw 500, Carver tfm15's x2, PS400's x2 and a little Yamaha mx35. Is any of this amps a decent match for 4412? A Kenwood basic pre amp will be used until I get my Yamaha pre amp working again. I listen to old rock and old country. I love my Cerwin Vegas in the garage, and I have NHT VT2 in the house as my main listening/surround sound. I am afraid the JBL will to refined for my liking. My hearing in the upper frequencies are shot, I think the reason I like the Cerwin Vegas! The JBL 4412 would go in my TV room/listening room for 2 channel listening. Thanks to anyone with any advice. Main question is really the price.

They are not "perfect" as the woofers have beem refoamed with the foams on the wrong sides and they probably pulled the dust caps to shim the cones and did a less than stellar job reapplying the glue.

Still $400 is a good price, just so you know that the flaws would significantly affect your resale value to a serious collector.

For best performance the foam would need to be redone on the rear. Mounting it to the front of the cone restricts the outward motion somewhat.

Agree with whats been said.

It is a great price IMO.

But man, heartbreaking that boneheaded refoam was done.

I would also make sure the front grills are present. As that would also hurt their value if MIA.

Im torn what to tell ya.

With no grills and bad refoam, $200.

I have the home version, the L80t's, and it sounds like you have amps with enough power to feed them.

Not to be picky, but the L80T is the home version of the 4410 (10" woofer). The 4412 has a 12" woofer.

As far as price, I bought a pair of 4410s with poor cabs and in need of refoam for $16 (public online auction)

LOL 200.00. 035t tweeter worth about 150.00 on their own. You can try to explain to seller refoam was done improperly and it will cost you 100.00 to correct issue. Offer 300.00 and he will likely say I’ll split the diff @ 350.00. That is still a helluva deal as they are worth 700+ on a bad day. The ones your looking at are the best version. Wood veneer vs black cabinets and the non A version which has pots for tweet & mid adjustment. I prefer to run mine w/o grills anyway for ability to adjust controls and they look better naked anyway.

run don’t walk.

Ooops. My bad, brain wasn't working there.

It's AK ... I giggled when I saw that as well ... i'll buy every pair I can find for that!

At this point in time, no amount of money will make them "right." The cones will always bear the scars of an improperly done job and JBL recone parts are made of unobtanium. An aftermarket cone could be used, but it's an aftermarket cone. You basically need to accept the fact that will probably never be perfect or even back to original.

Depending on the type of glue used, you could probably get most or all of it off using solvent or a damp rag and a bit of patience. But obviously the dust cap will never be back to original (although, tbh, this one wouldn't look too bad, if not for the overapplication of the glue).

LOL

It shouldn’t be that hard to redo them with the proper surrounds
I had a friend Several years ago that had the same issue
Took the woofers to Midwest Speaker and Joe fixed them up to near perfect condition
Somewhere he had some dust caps that were very close to the original
The now look and sound great!
I have no clue on these particular woofers , but sometimes frankly you can try redoing them without using the shins but you might end up with a voice coil rub.
Joe has been doing my driver repairs for years and it’s well worth the extra expense

I've only ever had to shim one speaker. I swear by the sixty cycle tone method.
Sure-thats what Joe does too.
Narrow gap woofers-like the stock AMT3 woofers-your better off using shims-out of the 4-your likely to get a rub out of one.

Thank you thank you thank you! Sorry for not getting back sooner, I have been restoring power and have not had phone service or when I did, I did not have time. Thank you. I am going to grab them up. Thanks again, you all's knowledge is awesome!
