JBL 4435/Altec A7 Magnificent/Bozak Concert Grand

pretty much what i figured but i needed some reinforcement from you all. It would be a big undertaking for me and i may even need to sell some other gear to help with cost. I feel like time is on my side a bit because big heavy/expensive speakers like that do not move so quickly here.

Move quickly to at least secure them with a down payment. If they're advertised somewhere, other suitors will show.

Plenty of threads around here where people describe how far they've traveled for gear, which implies people search far and wide for things they want. I scope out Arizona, Missouri, and the entire west coast for loot.

The CGs will go very deep and, no matter when they were built, generally love being fed by solid state amplification.

JBLs hands down then. Don't sit on the sidelines too long else they may be gone when you're ready.

As I'm sure you know, the length of time they're available and the selling price are inversely proportional. The only set of 4435's I can find around here (I'm not that far from the OP) have been sitting for a while, and they most likely won't be going anywhere soon unless the seller drops the price significantly. I've never heard a pair, but they get my vote too, but are probably also the most expensive of the three as well.

If you are truly serious, you need to go listen to them. You said they are near by. I would take your amp/preamp/cd player/cables. It's a little work but $3000 is nothing to sneeze at. You won't know until you listen to them. We are all different with different ideas of what we like. I'd spend as much time at each one as they will allow. Settle in a just listen, don't let the first impression sway you, get used to what you are hearing. In my case however I had the Infinity RSII's and it took me about 10 seconds of hearing the 4435's to know what the future held. Don't listen to any of us, listen to the speakers.

There's my final 2 cents....

Having chosen to not buy a pair of the Bozaks one step down from CGs specifically because the seller demonstrated them with the soundtrack from Jurassic Park, and the unpleasantly realistic level of the thunder made me first really uneasy, and then somewhat sick, I'm not entirely certain that the Bozaks couldn't keep up in the volume with the JBLs.
Don't know if you have a spouse or significant other, but the WAF might be another reason that the Bozaks might appeal.
And all of there speakers are big -- do you have the appropriate room for them. I don't mean just big enough, though that's an issue, but where you will sit relative to the speakers and whether the tweeters will be at the right level (whatever that might be), and whether they will sound right against the wall or out in the room -- big speakers in the middle of the room tend to be problematic.

I did 2 days out, and 2 back from NC to San Antonio for Khorns. The OP's mention of Grand Concerts has me thinking about a Labor Day trip to Alabama....

Nothing beats big , big speakers, I'm addicted to Altecs with big horns but I am building some JBL's now because I have some 2441's that need a home.
