There's a "HF Adjust" switch on the amp: 0, +/- 3 dB.

That you're not gonna smoke it with 35W, maybe....

Maybe they have some limiter built in to the amp, but on second thought, probably not because it's not biamplified.

Anyway, looks like a nice product. ZC-1s gonna kick a$$ however.

Also, were not the original 1's also marketed as brands other than JBL?

I have a pair purchased many years ago from MCM Electronics that appear to be clones. I've never opened them up, so any likeness may be in external appearance only.

Curiosity has me fetching the camera and a screwdriver.:scratch2:

Hmm. Skytronic do a fairly close (crap) clone, but I haven't personally seen any JBL units rebranded. Fetch that screwdriver!

I dunno about these, but AIWA made a speaker that was nearly a clone of M7, maybe a little heavier, that had a red LED next to the tweeter to indicate impending maximum input. Like a fool i sold mine a few years back.

Not visible in the pic, there is a large ceramic resistor on the back side of the XO board. These came with unapplied self adhesive badges that fit the recess in the grill, brand was "Zomax".

I can't see any difference on the outside (Zomax vs. JBL). Maybe JBL tried marketing them through other companies before they introduced the finished product?

I'm thinking it might be nice to have a pair of the unpowered ones for my T-amp, and the powered pair for the teevee.

Back when I was speccing these things I found that you can get just about anything you want if you ask the right guy in China. I could have taken a JBL Control 1, modelled it up in Pro/E, sent the file to a plant overseas, and had my very own (note: I didn't).

There are plenty of companies doing turnkey products like that and some are remarkably similar. There may be 10 or 20 US companies having their speakers made by the same plant and some of the tooling is recycled.

I must have measured a zillion of those things. The best curve and best sound came from a very "vanilla" model strongly resembling the Minimus 7.

Zilch, isn't that high-priced, Accurian monster amp 25W/ch? I thought that's what was promised in the enclosed info.

Not a bad little utility amp that IMO seems to mate very well with InDignias. It's got some guts.

TCB = Triple Chamber Bandpass, like the JBL above. Z got a collaborative started (imagine that!), Newman and I and a couple others chatted a bit, and then it kind of went into a coma.

Curiously, freq. response is only rated at "50Hz - 20kHz." Some kind of built in "rumble" filter, maybe? It implies an Accurian is a less than ideal sub amp.

Funny that I'm currently using a pair for just that. Each powers a DVC Wharfedale PPS-1 sub. I doubt the little Wharfedales hit anything below 50Hz anyway, but they lend about an octave of bottom support to my Minimus 7's.

Hey, Zilch, these Control line speakers are (nominally) rated 4 ohms. Isn't the Accurian notorious for failure when driving lower impedance loads? Seen any smoke yet?
