JBL Control 1 Loudspeaker - Measurements

Hey, Zilch, these Control line speakers are (nominally) rated 4 ohms. Isn't the Accurian notorious for failure when driving lower impedance loads? Seen any smoke yet?

I've been checking the heatsink periodically. According to others in the Accurian thread, it's only an issue if you crank it. I don't rock the house with these, plus they are surprisingly efficient. The Control 1 tech sheet says 90 dB, and that seems to be the case.

Control SB5 doesn't reach all that low, either, but the RTA says I'm getting a strong 40 Hz in-room with the Accurian amp. I should do nearfield measurements to verify.... :yes:

Compare results on the same speaker as measured on the other side of the continent:

Use 1/6 octave smoothing and resize to 640 W for easier comparison across platforms on a single screen, perhaps. Can you adjust your vertical scale resolution to be similar?

I think it looks pretty similar. Ill see what I can do to match the presentation, and as you point out, your plots are easy to read.

BTW, I barely prevented myself from chucking the laptop out of the window today. Anyway, at least I notched forward an increment.

I'm interested to see what conclusions come out of the analysis of the XO.
I did the rounds of the pawns today. Came home with nice OL Advents that might get the Ewave treatment,
Minimus 77s, which I've heard of but never heard ($20)
Control 1's in 8/10 shape for $35. Figured I couldn't go wrong at that price. No critical listening yet but the JBLs sound pretty nice driven by a 40WPC Denon Mini CD Rcvr in the shop system.

I'd mod the JBLs' crossovers if something looks worthwhile.
Haven't looked into the Minimus 77s yet.
