JBL Model 250 Ti Restore

Anyone know where to get the 1" metal dust caps for the smaller mids? My tech says he cannot find them anymore and I want to keep as original as possible. He said he could prob find a shiny black plastic one but if I can find a metal one to get them or find out where he can buy them.

Midwest speaker repair has them if you are talking about the 2nd driver down from the top. I just did (4) LE-5 midranges with their dust caps and they were an excellent fit. It was very hard to distinguish them from originals.

Yes I think we are talking about the same thing It would be the second speaker from the top. I will check that place out thank you

You might change your mind if you saw his inventory of voice coils, cones, etc., and his list of customers.

I concur I use South Florida Speaker Repair and they work on Everything from old monster big Altec Lansing's to everything in between... Every time I go in there I generally see something I've never seen before.
Cool old school small family shop that has been in business for decades. I would not hesitate to have them work on any of my speakers.

I've tried both places mentioned here and if course Googled. No luck finding a 1" aluminum dust cap. If anyone has any leads please lemme know before I have to use PP plastic ones. I have a few days before they hit the work bench.

Seems a lot of car speakers have aluminum dustcaps, maybe try some car audio suppliers?

Apparently they stop putting them in the factory rebuild kits almost 10 years ago according to one shop I spoke with. New old stock is my only option if I can find or buying old mids and repurpose them.
I think unless I get very lucky I will use the paper ones. It will tone down the brightness a smidge but that prob isn't a bad thing.

Once you get them fixed start another thread in Speakers or the Lansing forum and we can get into amps and the finer points of getting the most out of them. I had a pair for 15 years and have posted a lot over the years about them.

Congrats on the great deal you got ! Depending on your taste in music and speakers, you might have just bought your last pair.

Thanks. I'm very interested to hear them vs my Polks.

I have several amps with plenty of power to drive them.

Butler TDB 2250 is my #1 amp 250 wpc
Yamaha MX 1000 (drives 3 speakers) 250 wpc.
Denon POA 2800 (drives 2 speakers) 200 wpc
Adcom GFA 5500 200 wpc

I'm really looking forward to hear them through the Butler vs the Yamaha. Both beasts but the Butler just has a great sound. I'm a huge Yamaha fan but as much as I like the Yamaha sound and that it drives multiple speakers, the Butler is sweet and I only paid $300 for it so that might color opinion a little. The Denon is a fantastic underrated amp. Nice clean sound and plenty of bass punch. The Adcom also just a great warm sounding amp.

How the hell did I miss that??!!
I was on that site and have wasted 2 plus hours making phone calls all over the country.

I just got off the phone and they actually had them custom made because they couldn't get them any longer as well. They are silver and painted black on both sides of anyone else is looking.

If you ever make it to Boca Raton FL beers on me

Thanks !!

I didn’t include the link but Midwest Speaker Repair had them like I specified in my earlier post. I rebuilt a number of JBL mid ranges about 2 months ago and they had plenty in stock.

At least your project is one step closer to being done

I'm running two bridged Yamaha amps @700 wpc, take one away @250 wpc and the difference is profound, makes it difficult for most folks to understand their capability. I have another pair in system two driven by a Pioneer Spec 2 @250 and they sound very good but not as dynamic, they need big power to bring out their best.

Which Yamaha amps?

@Cactus Bob ...you have me thinking of bridging my two Crown XLi 2500's (500 wpc) now. My setup now is one to run my 240's and one for the 250's. I can run both pairs at the same time or just one or the other...which I usually just turn on one. According to Crowns spec the 2500 XLi bridged would put out 1500 watts mono..so 1500 wpc with two. I may have to carefully give that a try.
