JBL or Altec? -- Flint CL

Register to hide this ad
Seeburg DDSS1 speakers with Altec 811/802 tops, and Utah twin 12s or 15s. If the owner dropped JBL woofs in, that may be a screamer!

I think that horn is a 311-90.

It ain't gots no mountin flange.:D

............... and it looks large, much larger than an 811.

I'm pretty sure DDS1's they ain't. These are a bit larger, with no vents. Look at the width of that horn compared to the center distance between the woofers which i'm pretty sure are 15's.

Somebody should go look at those, 311-90 alone is close to a kilobuck for a pair with no drivers.

dds1

I thought the dds1 looked like this, this one has 1 811 altec horn, 806 altec compression driver, and 2, 15 inch utah woofers. and seeburg crossover.

Thebadone, that is exactly a DDS1 in your pic. If you removed the grill on the DDS1, you'd see a solid piece of baffle bisecting each woofer opening, they don't have a simple round hole.

Problem with this CL ad is very low credibility on the part of the seller. He says 4 feet wide, with 46 inch horn. If that cab is 48 inches wide, that horn is a whole lot less than 46. An Altec 311-90 is about 29 inches wide.

Second problem with the seller's credibility is that JBL didn't/doesn't make a driver larger than an 18.

Comparing the diameter of the dustcaps to the area of the cone and width of the surround, it looks as if they could be 18's which would put the horn in just about exactly the right proportions to be 311-90.

The pics suck, but i'll stand firm on my opinion that those are not DDS1's and never were.

Somebody go check em out!

I emailed the guy.. Still waiting for a reply. He's very local to me.. Just what I need another huge set of Altecs.
