JBL or Altec? -- Flint CL

? ?

How do they sound? :music:
they sounded fair considering that they were hooked up to a RCA 3 disc / receiver...type thing...:twak: loud as I cared to play them with no distortion. The vibrations were making the cd skip so that was the end of the audition.

info

Pretty sure these stack up like this.
Horns = Altec 511
Compression drivers = Altec 802-D
Low frequency drivers = Altec 803-B
Crossovers = Altec Series

Uh Huh !

Nice acquisition! Did you pay the full $200 (I would have)?

How are the cabinets?
Yeah, I paid full price. I heard 'em briefly I am quite sure these have not been babied by any stretch. But they still sound good for being 50 plus years old.
I am told the 511 horns are sand cast aluminum.The cabs :thumbsdn: big and ugly black and red.with really bad steel grating. :tears: at some point these had,or have under layers of paint,White Birch or African Mahogany veneer.

I don't think the heat gun is a good idea.:no: Who knows what kind of paint lurks in those coats. You could have them chemically dipped by a paint stripper in your area. I've had good success with that process. Otherwise, paint them the color you want with little sanding. Lead paint dust just isn't good for you.:no: Just my .02 worth
