JBL re-introducing the L-100

So far the L100s are the most noticed speaker in my collection. Nobody out of the vintage audio relm notices Quads, Yamahas, ESSes, other JBLs, ... but the blue quadrex everyone knows. I guess replacing them with new quadrex grille speakers might work.

Maybe my wife won't notice? Shhh!

Nice. Now you need a pair of the originals to complete your room, ...

AXPONA was my first opportunity to really hear the classics, and I am very happy with what JBL has accomplished, an excellent speaker that is neutral, energetic, has a great cabinet and classic look. If I could have bought a pair at the show I probably would have brought them home.
 
I’ve just heard these at the Harmon store in New York City. They were being driven by nice Arcam two channel gear. The two songs were “All Of My Love”, a 2012 Zep remaster and “Here Comes The Sun”, also a remaster. Man, these are improved vs. the original 100’s. No notch, no hardness. The bite of a studio monitor was still present, but not infused with glare. They imaged really nicely too, along with triangulating the stage depth. One could “see” into the middle nicely. I’m impressed.

Here ends my ten second review.

Did you have a opportunity to hear the 4429 monitor. Only 1k more but considerably better overall

That one wasn’t in the store, so no. Based on what I heard, I’d like to tho.
I did hear the DD-67000, and it’s just such a good speaker.
 
The JBL Instagram account posted that the L100s will be on display at RMAF. I'm looking forward to finally getting a chance to sit down and listen, even if it is under show conditions.

The L 100 classics are miles ahead of the original model sonically. The 4429 monitor is far superior to the 100 classic though only $1,000 more per pair. In fact at Axpona JBL had to remove the 4429 from the room because no one wanted to hear the 100 after hearing both!
 
Just purchased a pair of the new JBL L100 Classics a couple of hours ago.

The store had carried JBL, but had stopped recently. I asked why, and was told it was strictly a matter of space, that they simply did not have enough room to properly demonstrate the high end JBL wares. Looking around the store, I noted that all of their speakers were of the "designed to fit beside a tv" type ie. tall and very narrow, with tiny drivers. Aside from some very odd speakers that looked to me like parts out of a washing machine (B&O I think). Store is a Revel, Mcintosh etc. dealer, very fancy (and pricy) stuff indeed.

The demo room where I listened to the Classics had an entire wall of Mcintosh equipment, I would estimate easily more than $100K worth.

I bought the demo model Classics with black grills, for about 35% off retail price.

These sound really, really good. And they are big, much larger (and heavier too) than their ancestors (and name sake).

i’ve had mine for over a year and they’re by far my favorite pair of speakers I’ve ever owned.

I can, but won't, because the living room looks like Christmas morning right now (with all the packing material and boxes strewn about). The Classics look exactly like this factory image. I've got them on some Deertree Audio metal stands, as the JBL stands are ordered and enroute. Steely Dan is playing at the moment, "Deacon Blues".
