They are pretty well at the bottom of the JBL totem pole but that doesn't mean they are bad speakers. $15 is quite fair if they are in good condition and don't need foams. I think they are spec'd @ -6db @ 45hz with the 6.5" woofer.

well id hate to think what something higher up the pole would sound like because these sound pretty damn good....

Music to my ears! It's nice to read comments like yours as all too often people are led to believe their ears are better than other peoples ears. I have a pair of JBL L88's that have been described as rather lacking in mids and highs, yet they sound quite nice to my ears. Of course my hearing is likely better than theirs in those frequency ranges so I don't need a speaker to make up for that deficiency.

That said, wait till you can move up the chain of speakers, and no not just JBL's. As you improve your equipment and THEN your speakers, you will get to hear more and more sounds or subtleties you didn't know where there. Took me many upgrades before I could stand classical music. Now it's pretty bloody enjoyable!

Enjoy your find!

i have polk monitor 5, dcm timewindows, and klipsch sb2 as well. these litle jbls are just doing it for me right now. im running them with a denon dra 95a stereo receiver with a yaqin tube buffer hooked into the preamp loop. my source is a yamaha dvds2700 universal player fed through the musical fidelity v dac, and for my turntable im using a technics sl1210 with a shure v15 type iv...... seems to be a winning combo...

I had the previous model, J2060 (same woofer), and drove them all throughout college and early married life. They took the pounding like troopers, and never failed me a single time.
