Jeff Beck

I recall seeing someone in this forum saying they liked Jeff Beck. I picked up 2 LP's of his for $2/each in the "junk bins" at Jelly's in Worcester, just to see what he's all about. It's weird, both jackets are good to very good, while the vinyl is VG+ to NM.

I got Blow by Blow and Wired.

Looking on discogs, it seems the value on his stuff is not high at all. Why is this? I mean, it's all in the $2 neighborhood.

Is it just that he's out of style, or maybe they made huge quantities of his records?

Looking through Discogs, records from the "Yardbirds " are three times more expensive.

Yardbirds ....... Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page :music: :D

A popular artist, So there are a lot of disc around. So why they are on the Cheap. older Yardbird Pressings are hard to find. they have done all of their albums on 180g reissues in the last few years which brings the new prices up.

Really enjoy the Yardbirds as well as Jeff Beck

You're lucky, i am a Jeff Beck fan and those two are my favorite JB records.

I think they are only prized by electric guitar players; that could explain they not being so valuable. For a non-guitar player is like "hmm instrumental jazz fusion... next please". For an electric guitar player is: "wow..."

Start by listening to "goodbye pork pie hat" and you'll not be dissapointed.

most of the Jeff Beck stuff from that era features Rod Stewart on vocals. Great stuff, if you like early Rod Stewart when he still was a rocker. Some of my favorite classic rock.

What era are you speaking about. Rod Stewart had zero involvement with Wired and Blow by Blow...............

I am a Jeff Beck Fan.. what a true virtuose of the guitar

Greath catch with those lp's, but not much bass to pick up from those vinyls.

Blues rock is rolled off at a 102 hz. No wall-shacking bass there

but shivers there is !

Beck is some of my test albums........Guitar Shop has a bitchin kewl cover.
Been a Beck fan since he was with the Yardbirds.

Jviss, if you get a chance, try to find a copy of there & back. It is my personal favorite. Also try emotion & commotion, that's his latest work. Great stuff

Two iconic albums from one of the greatest guitarists.........

I second his album There and Back, The Pump is such a sparse but powerful arrangement.......
And the opening track Star Cycle....great stuff from Jan Hammer.......
and of course Simon Phillips on the drums.....

Guitar Shop is a fantastic album too, Behind the Veil, Big Block, Where were You.
Brilliant with Tony Hymas and Terry Bozzio........

I actually use several tracks off Guitar shop to tune PA systems....very nicely engineered and mastered.....

Something he did recently was Live at Ronnie Scotts (around 2008 I think) VERY nice album.....

He also did a DVD called Jeff Becks Rock and Roll party, which was a tribute to Les Paul, he plays all that Les Paul rock and roll stuff so well....he truely is a master.....just brilliant.....

In fact whilst typing this I have just put There and Back on....simply stunning album...

While not a Jeff Beck Album per se, his playing on Mustang Sally with Buddy Guy on his Damn Right I Got The Blues album is just awesome.

Count me in as another big Jeff Beck fan :thmbsp:
I have the following albums:
Truth
Beck-Ola
Blow by Blow
Wired
There and Back
Flash

I don't plan on getting rid of any of them.
Also have Guitar Shop and Emotion and Commotion on CD.
As someone else noted the "Live at Ronnie Scotts" DVD is superb!
It occasionally runs on PBS.

I really dig the faces. A nod is a as good as a wink is a great LP.

Rod Kicked ass in the early 70's

Wired opened up my ears to a whole new genre of music when I first heard it in the early 80s. So many great cuts there it's hard to pick a favorite. I can recommend that folks seek out the original Epic pressings over the CBS "Mastersound" release. The latter was some kind of early digital remaster and it just sounds thin and tinny to me.

One more killer LP that has escaped mention here is "Jeff Beck live with the Jan Hammer Group". Some smokin cuts there...

Mine are the Epic pressings. I guess I lucked-out, VG+/NM vinyl and the Epic pressings for $2 - 15% each (Jelly's is always 15% off used vinyl, it seems), so $1.70 plus tax.

I would never criticize anyone else's taste in music, but I'm just luke warm about these so far. I'm a guitar player, so I can certainly recognize and appreciate this virtuosity, and the quality of production, which is indeed superb. Who knows, it may grow on me. I'll play them a few times.

Also, the records are very quiet, I guess a good pressing that was kept clean. Amazingly, there were no inner sleeves when I got these! I cleaned them, just with the Discwasher brush, and put them in new paper sleeves.

Listen to "Sophie" on Wired. The changes. The fantastic drum fills! Listen how Jeff Beck changes the tone of the guitar to an interesting, "ring modulated" growl at the end of the song. Ear grating.
