I have varied tastes in music, from classical to jazz to pop to rock. At the moment I really enjoy Boston's debut album. I like Stevie Ray Vaughn. Last night I listened to David Bromberg's "How Lat'll Ya Play Til?" Much of what I like is due to nostalgia, I think, but again, I appreciate virtuosity, arrangement, production quality, etc. I tend to obsess on something, then move on.
"Truth" is a great record and Beck with a great band; Wood, Stewart and the great Mick Waller. This was Beck reaching out to a popular audience before turning into a cult item. At the time Truth was released it was pretty popular but Beck failed to achieve stardom like Clapton and Page; I think the quick rise of Led Zepellin stole some of his thunder and Stewart's leaving him was no help. Maybe Beck was too focused on the guitar and not enough on the songs.
