Jelco SA-370H opinions

I too had the 9" LAD versiom and found it a very nice arm once the bearings were tweeked a bit. I have a 750D and it is superior to the LAD, but the LAD was a tremendous bang for the buck Arm. IMHO
Regards,
Jim
My LAD version was bought for 130 USD shipped so the value for me was VERY good, especially compared to a 750 at 3 to 4 times the money.

I been so spoiled having the VPI's ease of adjustment of vta. Sometimes it's scary how a little tweak in vta on the fly can pop things up to another realm.

Aren't any LAD showing on the auction site currently. I'm watching for some things but next couple days I'll be up in Daytona for the 50th Rolex 24 hr race a buddy from Minne is down and we've got pit access  different kinda music for a couple days.

I don't know if it would fit the Jelco 750 post, Sumiko had a adjustable VTA base that you could fine tune for the MMT, FT3 and FT4.

Thank you sir for that info. I believe that I've seen something somewhere that mentioned something about post differences... found it. Actually it is on the Canadian distributor page Audio Sensibility (can't remember rules here so won't post a link) under a WARNING (Danger Will Robinson) the mounting is "non-standard"; "will not be able to take advantage of Jelco armboards" but that may be related to effective length differences versus 750 arms?

They do mention the "older and incompatible" LAD and 370 opposed to the 750.

I will have to look around for that Sumiko option. There is maybe one shop in Naples here that might have anything related to analog, maybe the Miami area :scratch2: I have a contact in Hollywood I could check and dig online.

The 370 and the LAD had collars that allowed quite simple adjustment of VTA. He weakness in my ind was that the collar screws tend to mangle the tone arm post over time if multiple adjustments have been made - and it is highly manual in approach. No nice turn something to raise or lower arm post arrangement here :-(

I believe that the Jelco 750 has the same type of VTA setup. My Sumiko MMT does as well as the Sumiko FT3 I once had.

Neither of my Sumiko/Jelco arms had that option, but I would guess that it would fit. They are hard to find. I know Delihaus had one, but I don't know if he sold it or not.

Maybe the reason they say "non-standard" mounting is that the 9" Jelco 750 has a tonearmpivot to spindle of 229mm, while the LAD 370 or Jelco 370 has a tonearmpivot to spindle of 221.7mm. For my Technics SL1200, I had to get a Jelco 370 armboard because geometrically it is the same as the 370. The Sumiko MMT is geometrically similar to the 370, but is similar in build to the Jelco 750.

The Jelco 750L 12" is just a few dollars more that the 10" model. I think you should go all the way and get the 12" model. I had one mounted to a Technics Pro-Base with SP15 and it was a wonderfull combo. But I sold it (damn it). I purchased a Thorens TD-124 and I am going to mount the Jelco 750L 12" on my new plinth for the TD-124...

Stop spending my money guys :D

I think I saw something that Pete Riggle may have a vta solution too for the Jelco at least the 750?

I gotta pack and head out for Daytona limited posting over the next couple days.

Cheers!

Have a fun trip Muddywaters and enjoy the sun, warmth and races. Maybe Hollywood Sound might have some interesting tonearms/accessories.

Well I pulled the trigger and ordered the 12" 750 to start with. Meanwhile the SP25 arrived packed well but with the platter on :sigh: from a Electronics service house in Missouri.

Table looks/works as described pretty clean but I replaced the bearing.

Muddywaters smart move replacing the bearing, if it wasn't worn I'd be suspecting damage after being shipped with the platter in place and the cost of a new bearing/spindle is cheap enough to make it a no brainer. Looks like you have everything but a plinth.

:thmbsp: I am jealous. Congrats!

Thanks MW!

I'll probably set it up ghetto with a birch ply sheet, maybe a sandwich with mdf. while I mull over how I want to pursue a final plinth design. I need to educate myself more and figure spacing for arms, esthetics and damping majick47.

PS what a great race this weekend :D

It was nice to see AJ Allmendinger win that one. He drove the wheels off of that GT40. Check EPay for some pretty nice plinth's for that SP25. Also, thedelihaus has some of the stock Technics SP25 plinths with custom carbon fiber armboards. I talked to him on the phone today and he mentioned thinning out his supply of excess audio gear and parts.

Got an AT ART9 on a Grace 940; the Grace is giving me fits. I'd like to buy something for around $300 that I could re-sell for not much loss six months from now. I read the 370H drawing/spec sheet posted on eBay, but didn't see eff mass. Noted a comment here that ef was 16-18 w/stock h/s @ 12g or less. US, eBay seller is asking exactly my target price. Wonder if this Jelco would work for me. Any comments welcome.
