Jennings Research Contrara speakers - worth $110?

There's a pair of those at my local used audio dealer. I've never heard them but the build quality appears to be excellent. I especially like the unusual cabinet veneer. I keep trying to justify buying them as they can be had fairly cheaply but with their odd size I can't think of anywhere to put them.
 
I've come across Jennings Research, Inc. Vector 1's, but passed on them because of asking price. They were not in business long, only 5 years (77-82), and also offered up separate components as well.

I don't know how their speakers sound, but most sported Danish manufactured Peerless Tweeters and Audax Mids/Woofers, so I would imagine they sound pretty good. I know they are from the Contrara Group (Series) and would venture to say they might be Elan 4's. If they are, I'd snap them up for that price. :yes:

Yes, those are the large Elan's, there's a smaller version less the midrange too, i'd have paid the 110 for them without hesitation.

Believe me, at the time I wish I could have justified their cost + shipping them to me. Plus my two years of HS French did not help me out with the seller as they were listed in Kijiji Montreal when I found them.

I would not mind those Elan's either as I could spin them around to face the dinning room at dinner time! :thmbsp:

You used to see them in thrift stores quite often but I haven't seen any for a long time. Nice speakers but nothing special. I'd pass for that money.
He says they go on ebay for $300 to $600. I don't know about that. The only ones I've seen didn't sell.
 
I dunno, looks like a pretty serious speaker for only $110 to me. Probably not much in the bass dept. though. Is that ad showing us that they came with amp modules or what is that thing underneath? They make me think of the kitchen - must be that butcher block look.
