Jensen Mystery Speakers

A most impressive build- my thoughts of Jensens has been raised! I always hoped they built something like that one day- and actually did! Even better we have a member on board who was around in their "glory" days!! Great report too.Give us some driver shots if you can- I suspect they are pretty good!

Just as an FYI, that was more of a last-gasp return to glory for Jensen, though they've always built (and continue to build) some very good drivers. They're one of the oldest speaker companies out there and did some pretty high-end stuff back in the day. Way back.
 
Impressive crossover on that thing. 5 inductors and handfuls of caps and resistors. Fairly expensive just for the parts alone.

My mom used to be an antiques dealer and over those years she developed an "eye" for good stuff. About three years ago she called me and said she found some speakers that looked nice, the only thing indicating this to her was that they were very heavy. After a brief description she wanted to know if it was worth the $12 price tag to buy them, even though the foam was shot. Of course I said yes! These are the later editions without the swivel base, in my opinion they are easier to deal with and have a more convenient footprint.

Long story short, I threw some new foams on the lower two speakers and went to town with some Old English on veneer. Really great speakers overall. Thanks everyone for the data on these, I'll be enjoying them for years to come!

They appear to be fairly well made with wood veneer cabinets and large (8" X 10") x-overs. There is an interesting driver on the back that can be seen in one of the attached pics. The back panel and the front baffle are molded plastic and the cabinets are ported. They seemed to put a fair effort into building these which makes me think they might be worth the effort to bring them back to life (re-foam/re-cap).

Have a set and cannot find the correct foam for the 12" woofer.
