This may well be a downgrade if they can not find a diamond shape that can be supplied in the quantity they need to provide better results than the SAS. It will be the new SAS or whatever they call it, it may cost a good bit more, depending on supply costs and may or may not perform as well.

If there are so many fewer diamond suppliers for the stylus itself, it may well explain the recent large price increases in decent and better cartridges.

No not at all. It is time to climb the ladder and get something better. Get to the point of paying a couple bucks per album in stylus wear (based on new cartridge price, not retipping costs), you should be safe in that elevated circle with equipment availability.
 
It is just strange ceasing order intake instantly without any prior notice and without giving some background information. It gives me the impression of "something wrong in a wrong way", some kind of unforseen disaster.
This absolutely would not have been accepted by my customers, when I still ran a wholesale company. I know the consumer market is different, but still.

Don't forget that JICO is a wholesaler as well, serving retailers like Turntableneedles and LP Gear/Tunes and even other wholesalers like Russell Industries and maybe Pfanstiehl. These customers may have received more notice.

Another possibility would be Jico having sold exclusive selling rights to another company. For Japanese people it already was not possible to buy through the international site, I guess to protect local dealers.
But of course it might have a totally different reason. By not mentioning any reason though, they feed the rumour machine. That might be orchestrated, although it doesn't really feel that way.
 
It's really not that strange. 'Becoming harder to obtain necessary parts' was the exactly the same reason given when Shure suddenly discontinued the V15VxMR and when Stanton discontinued the Stereohedron stylii.
 
Shure gave a bullshit reason for ceasing V15xMR production. Everyone else was still using boron, but Shure stated that the military is using it all. Shure simply found an excuse to bend to their bean-counters. And Stanton. They just didn't see the need to provide top-end items for the audiophile, as I see it. Now look at Stanton [and of course, Pickering]. Just another name bought by a big conglomerate.

+1 for Corporate Greed as the likely cause.
 
Glad I have some spares hanging around. I would expect they had some decent volume and a decent customer base but if the supply is extinguished I suppose they had no choice. Disappointed.
 
Supply doesn't cease from one day to the other normally, it would have been more appropriate to announce the end of availability from a certain date, not as of direct. Either something happened unexpectedly or they were afraid for a run if they phased it out more gradually and were planning to cease production already some time ago.

Fairly likely. There has been a bit of writing on the wall for some time. First there was a huge price increase a couple of years ago (ultimately rolled back a bit) and then there was an announcement that, henceforth, all SAS styli would essentially be made to order, not shipped from existing inventory. (I don't know whether that policy remained in effect until the end or not.)
