Jim Reeves - Best Sounding Records

Thanks for your recommendation, I picked these up, but yet to play them:

We Thank Thee - RCA Camden (blue), CDS1111, Stereo, Made in USA, 1973
God Be With You - RCA Victor (black), RD7636, Mono, Made in England, 1959

I imagine the Camden is very good and I assume it has the same recordings as the older ones, sometimes they choose a different take of a song for a later release. There are several songs on the We Thank Thee album that I really enjoy and I believe Reeves enjoyed singing them. The recordings are very open, spacious, sounds like a Chet Atkins recording. One can almost see the studio recorders spinning at 32'' per second, what ever it was back then at RCA.

Jim Reeves - "Twelve Songs of Christmas" is an awesome album. If that doesn't start the holiday mood then nothing will. What a voice.

Dyna groove could sound spectacular or manipulated. They didn't hold up very well unless you treated them with extra special care as we would do any precious LP today. They warp and paper scratch easily so keep them in plastic sleeves with rice paper and store them vertically in a relatively cool space. Maybe with your wine in the cellar.

Interesting. I’ve got 171 Dynagroove records, with the original paper sleeves. They play fine. No more fragile or susceptible to damage than any other record I have.
