Jim Reeves

I recently picked up The Best of Jim Reeves Vol 1 on lp the other day and fell in love with his music and voice. What albums of his would you recomend for me to listen to being that I'm new to his music. Thanks!

Wow! Looks like I've got some hunting to do...I have the Best of... Can you tell me if the ones in stereo are the Electronically Re-channeled versions and if they sound any good...My best of is in Mono.

There are more I didn't show. If this is you're first foray into country, you've stumbled onto a winner. Many of mine are similiar to yours. Only a few are new 'orthophonic' stereo. They all play well to me, though. There is nothing wrong with mono. Lots on here like them. If what you find is in good shape, pick it up, and look later for a copy you might prefer more. Reeves' voice hides alot of imperfections on any record, imo. Distant Drums was an excellant album, released by his wife after he died in an self-piloted airplane crash in 1964 at the age of 40. I also remember 'It's Nothing to Me' being released around 1976 as a single. Alot of new material was issued after his death by his wife, and for someone who really only recorded for about 10 years in country, he was prolific.

Thanks, what I meant is about Vol 1 is "The Best of Jim Reeves", it's the album pictured in the middle in the bottom. I'm not new to country, but just discovered Jim Reeves. I just love his smooth baritone voice as it's easy to listen to and not "twangy". If it's not too much to ask can you show me what else you have so I'll know what to look for? I really appreciate you helping me on this.

My Dad liked Jim Reeves and as a result, I grew up hearing his records played in our house.

No smoother sound than his recording of He'll have to go.

As mentioned earlier, he unfortunately left us very early.

Same here, my mom liked him. We were all tubes at the time.

My parents were German, so he was Yim Reeves. Must be why I'm attracted to Yim Yames, but thats on another thread.

I got these all for less than $100.00 (actually $80.00). Most are VG++ - VG- condition? Did I make a good score for all these? The covers are also good some still had shrink wrap and some had light ring wear. I've got some heavy duty cleaning to do, but which one should I listen to first?

Thanks...I normally don't keep what's on the shirnk wrap and I take it off to keep the covers from warping, but I did keep the original price tags. I guess whomever owned some of them bought them at the Navy Exchange (I'm familiar with this as I bought most of my lps there when I was a kid) for
$2.25. I thought that was cool and brought back memories for me...weird huh? I'm listening to "A Touch Of Velvet" and am loving every song on it...what a voice!! Thanks again for the photos Dave1384.

Keep your eye out for the Reader's Digest boxed set of 6 records titled The Unforgettable Jim Reeves. Boxed sets are normally in great shape and usally proced right. The set went for $37 when new but at thrifts around here go for $6-8.

If I remember correctly, Jim Reeves owned his studio and would record whenever (and whatever!) he got a wild hair. This left a large amount of recorded material available after his death.

Is there such a thing as a BAD Jim Reeves tune/album???

Loving all the Jim Reeves albums I picked up. Went straight to the turntable after work and put on "The International Jim Reeves" and "Songs Of Love" what a voice...Now if I can only find a whole stack of Val Doonican albums I'll be a happy camper, but that's like finding a needle in the heystack without going to Ebay or Gemm where they charge an arm and a leg...though if I have to cave and buy them from those sites I just might...
