Never been a jim Croce fan until last night when I listen to his "greatest hit lp. For some reason this lp sound so much better than radio and other sound sources I have heard of his music. Great folk vocalist

redding, CA. eh? that's where the now defunct "working designs" japanese video game translation/localization studio once dwelt. rest in peace...:tears:

It might depend how old you are, how much you like his music. Or just your tastes. I always liked him. :smoke:

Hi,

I like Jim's music. "You Don't Mess Around With Jim", Life & Times" and "I Got A Name" are loaded with wonderful, well crafted melodies. Maury Mulheisen was a really superb guitarist. On CD, there is a 2 CD set with all 3 albums and more mastered by Steve Hoffman which is recommended here.

I've always liked his music...it made me feel safe and comfortable during some pretty bad times in high school and college....I even eat at his families restaurant here in S.D. called "Croces". (Good Burgers!)

I got lucky and got to se him live on his last tour I think it was 78 or 79 I was a kid and still loved the acoustic show

I liked him a lot.He was a old fashioned Singer-Songwriter. Miss him and Harry Chapin.

Hi glum,

Jim died in a plane crash in 1973. En route to a tour date. Sad loss and he had 3 albums high on the charts and 4 singles doing the same. It happened while I was at work reading the news as a young DJ/Engineer. I played Jim Croce music and talked with saddened listeners on the phone.

I always liked Jim Croce. My favorite by him is an early release of the poem Gunga Din, from The Faces I've Been album.

I was still in junior high but remember the event like it was yesterday. Croce's music was special, he was such a fine songwriter. For anyone who is interested in experiencing a broad offering of Jim's work, pick up a copy of the retrospective album Word And Music, released by DCC 1999 (GZS-1134) and superbly mastered by Mr Steve Hoffman.

Me too! Or maybe it was 6th grade. LOL

I remember being devastated by Jim and Murray's premature passing. I was a preteen, and just beginning what would become a lifelong passion/obsession with music. Jim was one of, if not maybe the first contemporary artist I was very heavily into. Or one that at least didn't predate my first hand musical knowledge. Like Elvis, the Beatles or the Stones. I had his first 2 ABC/Dunhill records and played them till they were worn out. I also got most of the posthumous ones too. 'I Got A Name', and the one or two after it. I also picked up the one that was put together by Cashman & West. I forget the title after all these years.

I was just a little too young to have been emotionally involved in the Beatles breaking up, or the deaths of Otis, Jim, Jimi, and Janis. But Jim's death effected me deeply at the time. I was sad for weeks. I still miss him and all his wonderful songs.

Btw, his son Adrian, or AJ as he calls himself, who was 2 or 3 at the time of Jim's death, followed a music career, and looks and sounds just like his dad. Though on the few things I've heard by AJ, I would not put him in the 'singer/songwriter', folksy vein practiced by his father.

I became a fan of Jim Croce about the time "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" came out. I went out and bought the 8 track in 1972.

I was in the second year of college when he died. I got up that morning and turned on the radio to the local rock AM station (how times have changed) and heard the news about the plane crash. I was devastated.

A couple of months later I got my first real stereo and I bought his first two ABC/Dunhill albums, You Don't Mess Around With Jim and Life and Times.

I bought the album I've Got a Name when it came out. I still play them quite often and they sound quite good today. I think my favorite album is I've Got a Name. Even today, when I get to the last track "The Hard Way Every Time", it always brings me to tears.
