I've been using JRiver for about 5 years and it's a great solution for al of your AV needs for digitized files. It does Movies and Audio great and also does pictures, audiobooks and others. It has the capabilities to grab metadata from other resources using 3rd party programs that enhance for audio and visual capabilities. I've attached a couple of screen shots to show you some of the capabilities (it does take some work to bring in all of the additional metadata). It can also pull Lyrics from the internet and can create automatic playlist (all Rock Genre, Female artist, rated 3+ stars (out of 5), Year > 1970 as an example)
I use a Dell Laptop with a 10TB HD, USB out to a Dragonfly Blue out to a switch box to either a McIntosh MC30, MC2205, Fisher Tube 400 or Sansui 8080 Receiver. Speakers are Altec Model 19's.
The following three screen shots are of a Movie, Audio Files andMusic Concerts. Definitely take a look at JRiver, it has a lot of customization and flexibility.
