Yeah Harlem is really nice, even Washington Heights is quite friendly and safe. Most of my classmates who live off campus live up around 160-180th st and enjoy it. Really the only place in NYC that I avoid are south bronx and some corners of east brookyln.
But then again sometimes I visit my friend in Bed-stuy and have never had any problems. I feel like if you just mind your business no one is going to give you any trouble.
