Yep, sold through many, many discount furniture stores found just off each and every military base in the US in the 70s. They'd even finance it for you.

Advertisements found only after midnight on Friday and Saturday nights on local TV with said owners shouting to, "Come on down!" and "I'm crazy...." sorts of slogans.

Whew, that was a long time ago.

Cheers,

David

Groovy! Reminds me of the infamous Soundesign "Disco Tek", which seems to have taken the idea a step further. :scratch2:

I like this quote in the comments section:

"Nothing says "audiophile" like a built-in mirror ball."

Very cool! :thmbsp:

I have a boombox which has a mirror ball. The ball stores inside a space in the back when it's being transported, then pops onto a motor-drive unit on the top. Two lights pop up, one on either side, to illuminate it. The b-box also has a row of square "traffic light" sequential lights down the side of each speaker. I've also seen (but do not own) several other portable music systems with built in "disco light shows". Funky, fun.

Yup-A Morse Electronphonic

I bought one a couple of years ago. Had a frozen tt. Had a color organ.

Replaced the low end BSR changer with one that had been restored.

8 track worked-with what I must imagine was the original belt.

Receiver had issues-distorted output on one channel and pops and crackles from the other. After a Deoxit bath, nothing really improved.

My research found not much positive to say about them, from an engineer/repair/quality standpoint.

I finally gave up, took the restored tt out and used it on a Wards Airline console. Put the Morse by the curb-FREE sign attached. Dissappeared in a few hours.

They certainly had the kitsch thing going. I have seen them with mini bars, and electric fireplaces too.

Yowza, yowza, yowza.....

Next thing you know you will be looking for those terry cloth jump suits.

The amps are not that sophisticated, so swapping in some new transistors would have made it work, and a few caps for reliability.

In truth 100 years from now, the most sought after pieces of audio gear will not be Sansui, Marantz, Harmon kardon, etc- it will be that Morse Electrophonic and Soundesigns with mirror balls.

My uncle had one of those Electrophonic stereos with the disco ball back in the day. He was kind of tacky too! Ah the 70's! When there were fireplace stereos with a built-in bar and disco ball stereos.
