Well, I think it is, at least. Happened across this beauty Saturday afternoon at Dallas' only hi-fi store...Audio Concepts. No, I didn't get to listen to it....dammit. But I sure enjoyed looking at it. The D'Agostino Momentum. Enjoy.

It wasn't hooked up to anything. And I probably didn't look or act the part of someone who could/would drop down the $22K required to take it home, so the sales rep didn't offer. And I'm not one to beg.

Well "beauty" IS in the eye of the beholder. :scratch2:

I am with you. I would rather have your avatar.

I wonder what the ratio of cost of audio components is to case value. I have seen some of his stuff before, and it reminds me of a Gucci bling watch. Even $2k, I would hesitate on its' appearance, even though it may sound great. Probably sell barrel loads of them in Bahrein.

I have seen the momentum on a few occassions , pics does not do it justice , its a beautiful amplifier, maybe i have become jaded over the decades , because my all time favorite beauty queen is the Threshold SA1 's , they move me today as much as the first time i saw my all time favorites from the seventies the Sansui BA5000 and its nemesis , the MC2300...:)

Damn amps used to have style back then , Gryphon and Current Pass gear are also lookers ....:thmbsp:

I'm sure that is one super beast of an amp. Love the output meters, but polished machined aluminum is one of my least favorite finishes. For that kind of money they couldn't spend the bit to get it machine turned? Or is it just soo finely brushed it looks polished in the picture?

Too much time in a body shop working on customs I guess. You would more than likely have to re-polish that whole top piece to completely remove those finger prints if they have been there for any period of time if it is polished.

That meter is a bit steampunky.

Yeah. It reminds me of this:

I think the designer saw it at least one too many times as a kid.

Small world...I was at Audio Concepts on Saturday picking up a counter-weight for a TT.

Did not see the amp you posted a photo of, though, but I was only there for a few minutes.

Have to admit, though, my Luxman L505u integrated looks more pleasing to my eye :D

Cheers,

K.

Wow! Very interesting responses, gentlemen. I didn't expect everyone to agree with me but more of you don't care for it than I expected. Oh well, there's a nut for every squirrel. I have a feeling if it were forty years old and cost under four figures opinions (here) would be markedly different. :D

It's not polished...that's machined aluminum with a clear coat...maybe anodized clear. The green meter display and craftwork of the meter needle mechanisms and copper side rails really engaged me. I'm very, very conservative when it comes to aesthetics....don't like polish or chrome, don't like flashy colors, don't like gold, etc. Whoever mentioned Gucci...that's funny as I'd typically run screaming from anything like that but I didn't feel that vibe from this piece at all. It exudes industrial art way more than glitzy accessory. Gold side rails and a polished case would have been glitzy/tacky. Copper and machined is classy. Blue meters would have been just more blue meters in world where that is comfortable, safe and commonplace. I doubt seeing it in person would change many opinions of those who have commented they don't care for it, but it really is a stunner in person. Oh well, love it or hate it, it's the prettiest solid state (should have specified that earlier) amp I've seen yet.

As far as the price....meh, I don't take offense to it. If it sounds outstanding and has the highest levels of construction quality throughout plus makes an undeniable artistic statement and there are buyers out there for it then let free market capitalism rule the day. I'm more offended by $100 kid's Nikes that start to blow out after less than half a year.

And I'm in agreement about the Threshold SA1's....they were at the top of my list prior seeing the Momentum and in all honesty on any given day I could find myself preferring those.

Thanks for looking and commenting, fellas.
