Just in case you've never seen the most beautiful amp in the world, here ya go.....

Ugh!

Well, I think it is, at least. Happened across this beauty Saturday afternoon at Dallas' only hi-fi store...Audio Concepts. No, I didn't get to listen to it....dammit. But I sure enjoyed looking at it. The D'Agostino Momentum. Enjoy.

In the second pic, you see dusty fingerprints on it...I guess it must look better in person...

It looks a bit too flashy to me, I prefer black boxes.
I do admire the workmanship though, very well made, and even though it has a lot of details, it doesn't look cluttered.

I bet it sounds as good as an amp needs to, D'Agostino has quite a track record having worked with Krell and Mondial.

The version on the mfg. website is a bit different. These guys make high power, high bandwidth SS amps, btw, no tubes involved.

That combination shows it off best. IMO the thing looks great, but it sounds even better than it looks.

I like it. A very handsome amp. I read where the gauge was inspired by Dan's love of mechanical watches. I also share his love of mechanical watches but I am sure at a much lower cost. I also find my Krell S-300i a good looking integrated amp.

I got to see and hear this amp at a local shop a few weeks ago.
It was driving a pair of Wilson Sashas.

Yeah, I heard it at the NY Audio Show a couple of weeks ago. It was mated to some Wilsons as well. They sounded very good but I'm not much a fan for its OCC looks.

but not very capable

Nice looking amp if you like the look of "bizarre bling" in your stereo gear. For my own taste a simple black cabinet - with maybe some big VU meters is about all I desire.

We are all different however - the world would be a poor place if everybody appreciated the same appearances.

BUT - and it is a big butt, when Stereopile tested a matched pair of these one of them blew up - locked up and wouldn't restart. This was in a "load test" where the amp was driving some resistive load at about 1/3 of its rated power - the amp died after about an hour. of this test - got hot and gave up.

This review was in the edition prior to the most recent.

Not exactly what I would expect for $22,000. Then again much of the "high end" is composed of some seriously overrated items, e.g. Luxman CD players that are nothing more than an Oppo in a new case - with a very new and much larger price tag.

caveat emptor.

Here is the company's website. They have some pretty cool looking items. Love the meters. http://www.dagostinoinc.com/

The components are okay. Too "sci-fi" looking for my taste. When I see them I think of the equipment seen in the "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" and "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" movies. Very ornate and flashy in a Jules Verne sort of way.

It looks a tad too much like an espresso machine for my tastes. But what do I know: I'm a sucker for a really classy rack-mount look myself.
