Hi All,

I just ordered a Schiit Saga + tube preamp. I have a good preamp that I built years ago but I now work from home in my music room and need the remote function the Schiit has but my preamp doesn’t. Any opinions???

I had a Schiit Freya S here for a while. The solid-state model. It was a perfectly decent preamp with a lot of options for $600. The Saga + is only a tube buffer, rather than a full-tube preamp like the Freya +, but I imagine it's decent sounding.

For the $$'s and a company that knows about Tubes, I would recommend (and own) ELEKIT TU-8550. It's affordable, sounds great and simple DIY.

I have been running one for a couple of years, great bang for the $. You can easily tell when the tube is bypassed or not.

I've used a Saga+ for several years now. I'm a fan.
Remote volume has a very high WAF & the dual outputs make integrating a sub into the mix, when warranted, easy.

I just got a Saga V1. I'm very pleased with it and it's a definite improvement over my SYS, not only in SQ but in terms of the remote and additional inputs. It's a great bang for the buck.

In the amp/speakers/room supply chain, Saga+ doesn't get involved and doesn't break anything. I think of it as a great volume control, which I believe is the point of a preamp. And no offense to any ears, I'm not sure I can hear the tube buffer difference. Doesn't that kind of depend on the amp you are driving?

Oh, and question to any recent buyers, did your Saga+ come with a tube? Mine didn't and I just figured ok, not included and I have one around somewhere, but still seems like schiit left it out of the box.

Mine came today and included the tube. It says on the Schiit website it includes the tube. They are good people and will send one to you ASAP

I put it in my system and listened for 2 hours. It is very detailed and transparent. It’s a great addition with 5 inputs and 2 outputs. The remote works as advertised which is the main reason I bought it. As far as the tube goes, I can not hear any difference between the tube being in the system and not. That function can be switched with the remote control so I didn’t have to move, just hit the button on the remote.

IMS and IMR, its just sounds like a tiny "boost"/slight amplification of what's there. High-end seems more detailed. The supplied tube was bumped awhile ago.

I find this odd, as on mine, the tube makes a noticeable difference in imaging and upper mid-range and lower treble clarity. That said, I’ve never heard the stock tube- mine came with a red base Tung Sol, which I believe was offered as a factory upgrade and I’m currently using a NOS GE 6SN7GTB

I have a number 6SN7 tubes that in time I’ll swap. It might just be a matter of burn in. The strangest thing is the bass. With my previous preamp all the music comes from the front of the room. And the speakers disappear. The same holds true with the Saga+ except the bass appears to be coming from all along the side walls. I’ve never heard anything like it.

I just added the BT box so I can stream from my phone and with the volume all the way up, I have to turn the Saga volume up to 8 just to hear it. Any suggestions?

It sounds like the output from your BT receiver. Is it adjustable? How do you know the Saga is at 8? It has no markings correct.

No adjustment on the BT. Without the power on I run the knob from zero to full tilt and I guesstimated 8.
