KA-4002...help please

Hi all, thank-you in advance for any advice received.

I recently purchased a ka-4002 from the original owner, in very nice condition (incl. user manual and wood trim).

I'm really enjoying the sound coming through it, but have the following issues I'd like to fix:
a) Once powered on, there is a crackle sound (not through the speakers) and the power lamp flickers in conjunction with this noise.

b) When plugged in at the wall, the unit is off (no lamp burning, and device plugged into switched outlet is off) until I press the power switch, when the unit turns on as it should. But now the strange thing is if I press the power switch again, to turn the amp off, the lamp continues to burn and the device plugged into the switched outlet continues to work. It's as if the power switch isn't working, but then why does it work straight after the unit is plugged into power??
I've tried spraying electronic cleaner and use q-tips to attempt a clean on the switch without success. My logic tells me though that if the switch was damaged then surely it wouldn't work at all, why does it work as per normal after being connected to power, but then not again until unplugged an re-plugged?

Hope my explanation makes sense.

Regards, Warren

It is the switch, indeed. The 4002 has a rotary switch for selecting speakers and power. It could be dirty, or damaged from arcing. Regardless of the solution used to fix the problem, I suggest a relay or triac to permanently fix the issue.

A lot of conditions could cause this. I'm thinking conductive traces or detached contact. When you open up the unit, I think the reason will be visible.

And welcome to AK.
