Karlson cabinets with Altec 605a

These look pretty sweet, love those Karlson cabinets. Dont know much about the old Altecs, but I bet these would be nice with some tubes...

One cabinet is loaded with a 605A the other appears to be an early 604C with a split rim basket.

Look closely and you will see:

a) several small screws around the rim of one basket

b) the split rim driver's magnets are a little longer making the overall depth of the driver almost an inch longer than the 605. Note how much closer it comes to the back of the cabinet.

With matching drivers, either 604 or 605 these should have sold quickly. Now you know why they haven't.

The biggest downfall for an end user is that the 605 is going to be 3db down across the spectrum from the 604.

The flip side is that patience and careful shopping would allow a fella to flip one driver or the other to buy a match for the remaining one without adding a whole lot to the final cost.

Looks like the color of the stain on the cabs is a little different too. Probably one started out as a mono rig and then the other was added later on for stereo. The owner probably just turned the balance know slightly towards the 605 to even them out
