KD-500 in Chicago area $150 in CL

Have the table and holding it for it's final owner and destination but this is what it looks like.
I think future comments may need to go into a different forum like the KD-500. or maybe this should be moved there?
I'll leave it up to much smarter folks than I to make that call!

Glad I have a spare platter mat, arm that uses an SME cutout and an arm that is missing its cable. This KD will fix a lot of issues here.

Ha! I logged on this morning to specifically see if there was an update on the well travelled Kenwood. I'm glad to see it made it safely to Ohio. Now the masses can see how nice this table really is since I didn't take any pics. On to PA next? If you start a new KD-500 thread at least post one more here when it is spinning disks and singing sweetly in it's final resting place please so I don't miss it. :music:

Here is the rest of the story up to Jan 18.

OK, I now have this table I was roped into buying. Backstory is above and then there were the PMs that had José talking about delivery and such because he does that sort of thing, having moved a pair of Cornwalls from a seller in the Midwest, was it Chicago to the buyer in Elkton, MD. During that trip he pinged my about a pair of small EPIs the M50s that I sold to Akron, OH and said he could transport them. Great, so he dropped by after the MD unload and took the speakers back to OH with him. He and the buyer met up and all is good.

Since he knows where I live and I posted some very positive feedback about the looks of this table and the deal available, José's gears started turning and offered to be a middleman to my acquisition of this fine machine. I had a KD-500/Mayware in an earlier life and really like the table. Now have a KD-600 that I bought looking for a KD-500. 600 became my main table a few months ago when I finally got around to reinforcing the hinges before they broke. Table works great. Didn't know I needed a 500, too, but I never said no and as you see Tom and José worked together to acquire the table in Chicago area and get it to Columbus, OH where it was in safe keeping awaiting a PE to SE PA.

That trip came up quicker than I thought but I have been expecting it. I bought a pair of Tympani IVa speakers with Steve's money a year ago and he finally bought a house in Dayton, OH and needed his speakers. He came to PA to empty his storage locker and load the contents into his rental truck and then a day here cruising to tunes and grabbing the Magneplanars. José dropped off the TT in Dayton a couple weeks ago for Steve to bring here.

It's all good. You saw the pics above of the table with armboard mounted, SME armboard and a phono cable DIN to RCA of unknown origin. The dust cover is still in great shape and I might look into reinforcing it before it decides to break like most of them eventually do. A few slight bumps to it but overall absolutely great looking. I still have the original Owner's Manual from my earlier KD-500. I have extra tonearms and even have a Magnepan arm with a KD-500 armboard cut for it. It is from @ehoove and bolted to the table now. I'll try to get some pics.

So much happening in the my stereo rig world what with
1) a new to me CD player I repaired and did a chip upgrade,
2) losing the Tympanis...Hey I can see my CWD stereo cabinetry across the front wall and
3) the addition of a 2-wide by 30" tall Salamander Synergy stereo stand to go with my 1-wide, 20" tall stand which I'm going to mount on top of the double wide, I don't know where to start.

Hooked up a different set of speakers as the Tympanis were being loaded.
Cut some long bolts to use as connectors between the two Salamander units
Cleaned up the dust cover to see how it really looks...nice
Mounted the armboard with a Magnepan Unitrac on it.
Still need to move the old stereo stand 4 shelf unit out of the way and the small Salamander which is my amp stand and put the new to me from CL rebuilt Salamander in place and load it with gear.

All this gear moving reminds me of ehoove's big move of all his gear to get his carpet restretched a couple years ago. Maybe it is time for us to go to flea-watt amps.

TT from CL, PE'ed to me in less than 4 months, that is great. Last Pony Express I had was a three year deal, Tulsa to here.

I've been on a thin the herd kick lately. I moved along some small Kefs, a Rotel RX-802 that was just to pretty to sell but it was simply sitting on the shelf, some Infinity 3-ways, Kenwood separates, and some lesser stuff. The Kef buyer gave me an offer I couldn't refuse on the Rotel.

Motivated now I finally searched long enough to find a suitable power switch for my Luxman R-1120, awaiting it's arrival. Just now refoaming and recapping a pair of pristine Ohm C-2 speakers. Ordered power supply capacitors for a Dual 1215 so I can sell it. Two pairs of ESS amt 1B bookshelfs to refoam and recap.....the list goes on, I hope I can stay motivated.

I'm glad the KD 500 is nearing the end of it's journey. Don't forget the finished product pics. Maybe I'll look up the guy who sold it to me and tell him it's long, strange trip story.

Be well all,

Tom G

The KD-500 is in the house and I have cleaned it up a bit. Wasn't bad. Must say that the packing of the unit was nicely done and I don't know whether it was @Hose53 or @TomBig58 so thank you both for that.

Here it is sitting in the kitchen on the new to me Salamander Synergy stand rolling around on a furniture dolly. That thing is heavy. Can-Can sale at the grocery store leaves a dozen cans of veggies on the cabinet and you can see the hinges for the single door on the right but no door on the unit and the front of one drawer is off, broken attachment. Fixing those things as I work on all the small projects. The KD has a platter mat now and the Magnepan has been mounted. Now to rip apart the main rig and make room for the Salamander. I made the extension bolts yesterday to allow my smaller unit to be installed on top of this one, but it is holding a TT and three amps. So I worked on installing the drawer front today hunting down the hardware I need in all the drawers of nuts and bolts I have in the garage. Slow but sure as the main rig works just fine right now.
