Kenwood 700C Nudies

It will not have escaped the notice of those who are reading this thread that I have moved on from my EW modded Kenwood 700C.This should not be taken as a slight upon that preamp.Consider what I replaced it with,what it took for that to happen:

The immediate component I replaced it with was the Lightspeed Attenuator.A Light Dependent Resistor attenuator.Two RCA sockets at the input(Left and Right channels),a LDR for each channel,and two RCA output sockets.No gain.Impedance interactions with low impedance amp inputs.Very good sound

Presently I am using the Transcendent Sound Grounded Grid.Very simple signal path also.Naturally,not as simple as the Lightspeed.Beautiful sound.Much more user friendly than the Lightspeed.Provides gain to the signal,as a preamp does.

The EW 700C,given all the comprehensive signal adjustment and input capability etc it can provide,does(to my ears) a sterling job.I have heard dissenting opinions from individuals whose opinion differs from my assessment(no names here).I respect the opinions of the dissenters,and am not about to go into in this post exactly why I speculate that they may have not felt the same way about it's sound quality that I do.

To my tastes,in my system,it took two extremely uncomplicated,unadorned(circuit-wise)components to unseat the EW modded 700C from my affections,and to me that speaks volumes about why I still have a high regard for this preamp.

I also watched this thread and contemplated the outstanding job EW did to this beautiful piece of audio engineering.:trebon:
My question is: which one from these Trio-Kenwood preamps (here I talk about 700C Supreme vs. L-07C II) would be, in your opinion, better sound-wise?
 
The 700C is a superior piece by far when properly restored and film caps installed where Kenwood cut some corners to save a few manufacturing dollars.
 
Any way I could get a rebuild shopping list for the 700c EW upgrade? I can source replacement parts but there’s so many different make/model options. Not sure which ones are best application. Thanks

You might find such a thing, but it will come with a big caveat. Technology changes, we get more real life experience with the actual longevity of something vs the estimated longevity. Thing is, some of the parts listed out may no longer available, so you basically need to review the list based on current technological developments along with the actual requirements. The list is a starting point only. The onus is on the restorer to do the subsequent research to validate it is still appropriate. Good luck!
