6100 has meters, while 7100 doesn't

Its actually the other way around, the 6100 has the quasi dual power supply, the 7100 has a common power supply for both channels.

Actually, both the KA-6100 and 7100 do not have dual transformers. They have 4 big power caps yes, but they have dual windings from one transformer.

Only the 8100 and 9100 had dedicated transformers for each channel.

The 6100 has a single transformer with dual secondary windings and separate rectifier bridges and capacitors for each channel as stated above, hence the term "quasi dual supply".

Edit: And you are right..... the 7100 also has the "quasi dual supply" I should take more time reading the crappy schematics I have for the 7100.......

Does anyone know how the Kenwood KA-6000 stacks up to the 6100?

Edit: I did find out a bit from an eBay seller:

"The KA-6000 was Kenwood's top of the line amplifier at the end of the 1960s. It features inputs for two turntables (with sensitivity selection for phono 1), tuner, auxiliary (CD etc), microphone, tape head, as well as tape in and out. There are also pre-amp out / power amp in connections. You can connect two sets of speakers, with switching to run either or both.

Front panel includes click-stop bass and treble controls, with a tone mode switch to bypass either or both, loudness contour switch, one high and two low filters, and a stereo / mono switch which also has a reverse position. Input selection is indicated by six lamps set into the fascia."

Now if I could only figure out why it won't turn on any more...

Welcome to AudioKarma.

The KA-6000 is a very early top of the line solid state stereo amplifier while the KA-6100 is a few years newer middle of the line unit. Many audiophiles will prefer the sound of the newer KA-6100 although there are a fair number of listeners who love the sound, look and feel of the older KA-6000.
