Kenwood KR-3130 Replacement Transistor

I'm in the process of my first vintage audio restoration - a Kenwood KR-3130 that was given to me by my dad. The right channel didn't have any sound initially which I traced down to a bad Q16 transistor (2SA565). I switched this one with the left channel (Q15) and now the right channel works but not the left.

I ordered a NTE159 which I was told was a modern replacement for the 2SA565 transistor and soldered it in place but all I get is an occasional faint crackle in that channel. I did clean all pots, switches, connectors, etc with deoxit just to be sure.

I'm wondering if the NTE159 is not a correct replacement for the 2SA565 and if not, what should I be using instead?

Did you get the NTE properly installed E to E , C to C and B to B?

NTE159 is EBC looking at the front side.

Thanks a ton avionic! I'm fairly new to all of this so I'm still getting comfortable with transistor selection - I'll give this one a shot and report back with the results. I did make sure I had all the leads going to the correct locations (that is, as long as the diagram from NTE was correct - E, B, C left-right if looking at the flat on the transistor).
 
Just to triple-check things, I just put the one working S2A565 I had in place of the NTE159 and that channel started working. It definitely appears to be the transistor as the channel I place the old 565 in starts working, regardless if it's the left or right.
 
Alright guys, I feel a little silly for saying this but I figured the arrow on the old transistor was pointing to the emitter...turns out it was pointing to the collector so I had E&C swapped on the new transistor. Got everything soldered the way it should be and the receiver is working!! Thanks for your help!

Already replaced all 4 electrolytic caps.
Test all resistors.

Now I only suspect the tranaisotrs.
I want to replace them.
There are
1x2sa565
2x2sa537a
2x2sc708

I want to ask what is a good replacement?

Last thing, I think there is something wrind with he diagram.
They wrote TR05=2sa566
Where's I see on the board actually it is 2sa537a

First of all, I disagree with your bashing of NTE.

Secondly, right immediately after you did that, you should have put your preference, full stop.
 
Oh yeah I see links to Mouser.

To be honest, I've not checked them out yet.

I'm fine with Mouser and Digikey but what's so wrong with NTE? Are these other parts so much better or safer? The only thing I hate in this universe is China and all their cheap phony ripoff garbage.

Add:

Oh wow, that Mouser does a good job. I went to the pinout and got more confused again, but the Fairchild datasheet page spelled it out. Pins 1, 2, and 3 from left to right would be emitter, collector, base.

Boy, those transistor mfgrs sure like to be unique. Why can't they all just have put them e, b, c?

The components on the board are correct, but displayed on paper are wrong!
