Kenwood MV-9D Monster 700 watt Monitor Speakers

I've looked all over the net for information on these Kenwood MV-9D Monitor Speakers and have found nothing. I got a pair at a yard sale today. They are HUGE! The cabinets have some knicks and dings but they really some nice sounding speakers. Anybody have any idea on their value? They are really too big for me to keep in my home, but I just couldn't pass them up. Each cabinet measures 35 1/2"t x 27" w x 15 1/2" d. Anyone familiar with these? I'm not generally crazy about Kenwood, but these certainly have no mercy!

Hi there,

Same model number...what does the (Military) mean? These suckers are huge...disappointing to see the value. Does it show a photo? I can imagine with the size of these, who can use them unless, as I figured maybe they were like for a dance club or something. They have 4 - 11" woofers + more in each cabinet. *Sigh* They sure rattle the floor and feel it in your chest. Tubthumpin? lol.

These were only sold in the Military on-base exchanges...never in standard consumer outlets.

I can't imagine what someone would do with a set of these in on-base housing!
 
I can't imagine someone wanting them in their home, let alone small on-base housing. You'd have to have a mighty big living room to keep these. :banana:
 
My gut instinct says kabuki, but I could be wrong. How do they sound? How about some shots of the back with the binding posts?
 
I paid $100 for them. Which I thought was a killer deal. The cabinets edges are pretty worn and I just noticed on one of the speakers there is a slice in one of the cones. The surrounds are all great with a couple of dimples on the bottom 2 speakers on one of the speakers. Not breaks or cuts though.

They sound great. Volume barely up, you feel the vibration in the floors, walls literally rattling and you feel the thump in your chest. awesome! (if you like the thump). The domes are pushed in on all the speakers and even torn on a couple of them. Scale of 1-10 cosmetically I would give them a 6.5 because of the wear on the edges. Soundwise, I give them a 9.

Binding post? Not familiar with that term, still quite a newbie.

Tried to cover all reponses. :D

Military... may mean pych-warfare... they look like they could put out some serious db's.. played with the contrast.. really couldn't see a thing with the posted pic..
 
Ah, :lmao: thanks! My camera takes bad pics inside. Will take them outside for better lighting for all to see by early tomorrow. It's so darned hot here today. (Fayetteville, NC) Swelter weather. I want to move them around as little as possible. Not just heavy but odd size to grasp as well. Will get some good pics tomorrow.

Not sure just yet...will weigh them when I take them outside tomorrow as well. My guess is about 75lbs each, easy. I wouldn't doubt more, but with the size of them, you just concentrate on getting them inside safely without pulling all the muscles in your back or busting out cones. :D
