Hey there Valvetype Charlie. I think I have the big brother to these. Mine are KL 7080. Going by the pics of yours I see on the Googs they must be similar in operation. I have 46lb. 5 ways w/ 6 drivers! A 15" woofer too.
They are not cheaply made. Provision for triple amps (I think) and 3 "level" positions on some kind of pot for tone. On the brightest setting these speakers are like that drunk dame at the bar screeching in your ear. They are loud my friend. But I will try and tame them. Got 'em very cheap so I am making inserts to cover the spanish latticework grills. Made in Japan?
I think something can be done. Let us know how you do with yours - any ideas will be appreciated.

They're $200.00 for the pair,,,a bit dear maybe ? I kind of like the look of that lattice work..nice and retro..
I've got my heart set on vintage Wharfedale really (I'm searching for 'warmth')....these Kenwoods looked pretty cool though I thought

Django one of my favorites. I have maybe 6o tracks in FLAC format.
Wasn't recorded very well originally but these releases from England sound ok. There are more out there, his music is listened to by a lot of people. Amazing guy and quite a story.
Don't know your local market on vintage stereo stuff but that price would be way high here. That speaker may have its fans. Bet you find your Wharfdales with a bit more patience. Good luck. Post a pic when you get 'em - or maybe the Kenwood's anyway if that's what you like.

I think the non-domestic (USA) made stuff was mostly (theres exceptions) was mostly crap.
I do have a pair of Kenwood LSP-9200's. They look Kabuki-ish but man they sound brilliant.

Not out of the Kenwoods yet...
Don't know what Big Tuna might think of these, but they do not lack for production value. Plan is to fix those chips, pair witha KR 4070 I got and pass them along to the next person. Kind of fun, you get to keep them a while and tinker around.

No worries....the prefered Wharfedales will turn up one day...
There was a pair of W60's for sale in the U.S.A a while back and just out of curiosity,I asked for a rough freight charge to Austraila.... $2,200 !!!..yikes !

The usual term for that many speakers in a box with a way too large under damped woofer is "Kabuki". This usually results in a very boomy bass that doesn't go very low, an in your face midrange and a screechy treble.
I don't know about "down under" but the overwhelming majority of Kenwood speakers sold in the US were in the "Kabuki" class.

Being a newbie at Vintage Audio,I think I would have gone and bought those 3080's...Who knows,they might have been very good,but as a few have said here,$200.00 is too much...especially buying Sound Unseen !..thanks......we wait.

I would have loved to have heard them....trouble is,they were 200 miles down the coast..
I recently took a gamble and bought a pair of Goodmans Magnum SL3's without hearing them,but the seller seemed like an honest bloke and they got good raps here on these pages,so I went for it...
One thing bad I suppose about living in Rural country OZ,is that just about everything you do involves travel..... or a gamble

I stuffed some more insulation in my Energy C-1 Bookshelf speakers and it tamed the Blotted bass from them, but they are rear ported.
While I've never heard these Kenwoods I believe with careful adjustments to the 3 switches to controll the drivers, and tone controlls they might sound quite good. I wouldn't used the term refined with them, but I've heard speakers from several of the more popular makes that didn't impress me either and have Blotted Bass that is just as offensive as those. I Like the Latice Grills and Overal looks, that is there best atribute IMO. Placement plays an important role for the Bass Responce, If you can keep them out of the corners of the room they might in fact sound very good for what they are.

Had a pair of 3080's long ago, before they were long in the tooth, the sound really mimic'd a friend's Sansui SP2000 setup... Flabby bass, blaring mids, and what I called twinkly treble. Not .... Coherent . Ohm® model E's rode roughshod over either pair. Loved LOVED the model E's
