KLF-20 or Cornscalas?

how do the drivers and horn compare? curius why you keep both of them.
but i agree,cornscala is very good. i paid almoust double with shipping and taxes still one of the most interesting i have built.
i wish they had a steeper crossover thou, they overlap a bit to much, and i have gone thru a couple midrange diaphragm`s so farr, with two very different amplifiers. im pretty sure 1st order 500hz is the reason.

Moray, are you talking about building a separate enclosure for the KLF-10 tweeter horn and then mounting that to the top of the KLF-20 cabinet? Does anyone have any pix of this configuration?

Well Bob just got back to me saying that the woofers he uses have hit around 29hz in certain cornscala cabinets but the cabinets that are based off of the Cornwall hit around 34hz. He also says since his woofers use an aluminum frame they have more magnet power than the Cornwall's do

what is the 3 db down frequency of his Cornscala and what woofer he is using to achieve 29 Hz.? Ask what level a Cornwall plays 34 Hz at it is not near flat and I would guess minus 5 - 6 db. Yes wall and corner loading provide additional bass output but it is not a fix all and such loading tends to bloat the bottom end a little so listening is important. There must be some local AK or Klipsch forum members in your area even if you have to go for a bit of a drive it will be worth the listening experience. Hope this helps. Best regards Moray James.

just placing the KLF10 horn up on top of the KLF20 and spacing it back about an inch from the front to time align the tweeter to the mid. These two horns are virtually identical so polar patterns will march perfectly and you will have a much better and wider overlap between the two. If you have trouble with imaging how it will look just pull one of you mids and place it up on top of your other speaker and that is what it will look like. Best regards Moray James.

Sorry if I sounded ignorant in my other post but it's because I am no pro when it comes to audio and am slowly learning. I do have a 10in klipsch powered sub and I was looking at an rsw 15 for an upgrade. I dont know if i need a my mains to hit lower than 40hz. Should your mains hit hz that low? I just kind of figured that's what the powered sub was for but i dont know anymore haha. I agree that i need to listen to other speakers but trying to find someone with a decent klipsch setup in eastern Iowa is hard to do. My boss is the only person i know with klf 30s. Another problem im running into is trying to find the klfs in the Iowa area so that's another reason i was inclined to go with the cornscalas.

no need to apologize at all and I did not intend for you to take my remarks that way. I simply wanted to restate what I had said. There is a difference between output level and bass extension Cornwall K33 woofers make lots of output down to 40 Hz then they drop very rapidly below that frequency. So the Cornwall make a lot of bass but only down to 40 Hz. How low a loudspeaker should go is up to you and you alone. I can tell you that to ask the question "should a loudspeaker go lower" will simply result in a draw. I hope that this helps. Best regards Moray James.

Personal preference - non technical response...
I have KG 5.5's and KLF 20's. ( I had Cornwalls also and my main system is Klipschorns)
A friend of mine built some Cornscallas.
I would say for overall sound quality, fullness and detail the Cornscallas sound the best followed by the KLF 20's and the KG 5.5 being quite a bit behind both, just my 2 cents....

I currently have the kg 5.5s with crites tweeters and they sound good but they still seem to be lacking the sound that im looking for. Not sure if i should keep them or sell them. Not sure where i would put them in my 5.1 setup

This might be way off topic but I was wondering what the difference is between a car woofer and home audio? I have a jl sub in my truck and it sounds amazing. Is there a reason why people dont mix car with home? Just curious and trying to learn so dont make me feel too dumb haha.

Please forgive the resurrection if it applies. I've been searching thru threads to find out if there's is another way of aligning the mid and hf drivers besides placing the driver on top of the speaker? I apologize if this question has been asked and answered.
