KLH 23 logo plate placement?

Ok about the 5's I got yesterday. It was a CL post, the guy had two pairs and was asking $300.00 each. He did not know me from Adam, so I had him meet me with one pair in the back of his mini van. They were nicer than I expected and in the original boxes. The badges were lost in a move. I met his wife, a nice couple in there mid 70's. I offered him $240.00 and he counter offered $260.00 which we agreed upon. He said they sounded good, which I believe. Will hook them up tonight an find out. Very nice survivors. I know I can make them shine. I would not have paid anymore, but these are really nice and one owner. Maybe low miles. It seems like I get a lot of stuff in pairs. Something inside of me is saying try to get the other pair. How would I go about making him a offer without offending. You never know.
About the badges. 15/16 X 2 1/4. Same size as the ones that came off one of my pairs of 6's. (later version) Glue on type. My other two pairs of 6's have the screws. These have a gold tone outline on a black border. The ones on epray seem to have a silver border.
Offer the same for the second pair, I don't think he would be offended. These are only going up in value these days. Four of these playing at the same time would be outrageous!

I picked these 5's up about 4 hours ago. Original owner with original boxes. No badges though. He had four and a Fisher four channel receiver. If someone is checking the correct dimensions of 23 badges, maybe someone can chime in on 5 badge dimensions. Where do I post what I paid for these to get opinions if it was a good value. Did there not used to be a Dollars and Cents section? Debating if I should try to get the other pair.

Stunning! Give them some Watco's natural color oil and they will be amazing looking!

Great stuff... Don't see anything like that around here for the most part (speakers on CL always look like they've been dragged BEHIND a van)... Love my 23s, and would like some 5s, but I'm "frugal", LOL.

Congrats!

Stacked Model 5's ? Brought the other set home tonight. Almost as nice as the first pair. For about 1/2 the price of a nice set of AR3a's I got four. Have the first set hooked up to a restored 2270, and I am impressed how well these 40 year old untouched speakers sound. I am formulating my plan of action to restore them. Have a second set of AR2ax's and another set of 6's to do first. Probably sometime after the holidays. Still want the AR3a's.

Awesome!
Looks like both pares woofers should be resealed, as well as the mids.
They should also benefit from a recap. Curious, how close are all the serial numbers?
Also interesting they are all missing the grill badges.

Congrats on a great double score!

Serial numbers on the first set, AS0511884 and AS0511897 Second set are AS0511894 and AS0512055. Used clear sealant from Vintage AR on my 6's Did four woofers with two applications each. Those surrounds were yellow in color. Will get the black sealant for these. Probably one batch wont be enough for all four. Already know what I am going to use as far as new caps and resisters and ground jumpers. There were two styles of crossover board, but it does not really matter much. The existing grill covering is nice, but I will probably go with a off white 18 count linen. I know the Watco oil would look nice on these, but I am leaning toward something with a reddish tint. Maybe some type of stain with a satin gloss poly. Not sure yet. The second set came with one original badge and owners manual. The gold tone one came from the 6's I am doing soon. Need another one. Some guy over at CSP makes laser cut reproductions of the silver ones for $10.00 each shipped.

Hooked the second set up to a Scott 299C with a little bear phono amp and a SL-1700 sporting a V15 TypeIV with a Jico SAS. Played 200 gram Rush 2112, WOW Even better than the first set on the Marantz. Will post back in January when i start on these.

As someone mentioned in a comment long ago, my Model Fives have a finish that is closer to Maple than Walnut. The finish is also quite glossy rather than flat like JBLs. Maybe there is a urethane coat on top? I have never tried putting another stain on top of this glossy finish.

Can I ask a favor, could you scan that instruction sheet and email or post it here?

Cheers and congrats!
