KLH 6 Crossover Confusion

Where’s the confounded bridge?
Sorry to be redundant, I have another thread open on my 6's refurb but wanted to bump this issue up. I have a pair, circa 1969. I opened the first one to do a recap, looked at the crossover and man, it does not look like anything else I've seen in the forums. Is this normal? As far as I can see, they have not been touched.

Is there anything I need to do the crossover at this point or should I leave them be? The sound is fine by the way and the only other thing I was going to do is reseal the woofers.

Definitely replace that cap. It's a double- you'll need two new ones. Wire one end of each
together, replace in circuit.

I had originally bought Dayton 2.0uF's, 250V 5%'s. Would a pair of them replace this one or are we talking about a completely different cap?
 
First One Done... Used the original wires connected with wire nuts... Thanks for the help everyone!

Coming back to this thread to try and get some clarity on the crossover of my 6. My set, which I have to say sound great since I recapped and sealed, only has the dual 2uF cap. Does anyone know why they eliminated the 8uF cap? What exactly did it do previously and how were they able to eliminate it and still have the speakers sounding great. @GD70 , Glenn, would you have any idea?

The 8uF cap is in a different location. It is attached to the back of the front baffle by a plastic bracket. Trace the wires going to the tweeter to find it.

Not on my pair. That’s the mystery of these. No 8uF cap anywhere and I had them emptied out when I refinished them. They have never been opened as far as I could tell prior to my working on them.

Only one crossover style I’ve ever seen.. Yours has the 3 position switch on the back?
 
It has the three position switch with the 2 screw terminals in the back. I found the pic I had of the insides, included it below.. Red and black went to the woofer which I had on top of the baffle for this picture. I thought I read somewhere that as the model went end of life, they started changing (read cheaping out) on the crossover components but I can't find a reference for that.

It doesn't look like they eliminated it (in general). In your situation, I'd probably add one back
in and see how it sounded. Are your tweeters overworking/distorting/trying to reproduce
sounds they weren't designed to?

I was just thinking the same. I had ordered a set for each speaker based on what everyone else was seeing in their 6's. Would you know what the function of the 8uF caps's were ?
 
Odd that the 8uf cap is missing. I'd definitely put one in there.
Are positively sure it's missing? Sometimes they are mounted to the front baffle.
 
Positive. I had it apart when I recapped the 2uf’s. When I ordered the caps, I did order 2 pairs of the 4uFs. I’ve seen how they get connected together from your how to’s. But where do I put them? Do they end up just before the signal gets to the tweeters?

Caps installed, tweeters protected... All is right in the world! Thanks again for the assistance while figuring this out. Still wondering whatever happened to the original ones but I guess some mysteries are destined never to be solved... :dunno:
