You are in the era of the decline of KLH as a quality speaker company. That being said, during that era I was looking for a decent bookshelf speaker at a reasonable price. I auditioned many company's stuff and I listened to a lot of KLH's. The only pair that sounded "right" to me was the 900b. I have 3 pairs of those and I swear by them. I'm sure that I listened to the 912bs, which were a little larger than the 900bs, and I was not impressed.

If they were really inexpensive and your standards were not too critical, I'm sure they would be fine for average use. I would, however, not expect a lot from them.
