KLH Model 26

No making fun of the newbie.

I've got my eye on a pair of KLH Model 26 speakers. Is $20 unreasonable?

As far as I know, the Model 26 loudspeaker was available only as part of the Model 26 System. This is sort of a little brother to the Model 20 System but without a tuner.

• 8-1/4" Woofer, cloth surround
  
• 3-1/2" Tweeter, cloth surround
  
• 4 ohms
  
• RCA connectors
  
• Walnut veneer particleboard
  
• 18" x 10-1/4" x 7-1/2"

Depending upon condition, I'd likely offer them up to $15. Are you able to audition them?

I was hoping for 8 ohm, but no matter.

It looks like I'll get to see them tonight, but I'm not sure if the seller has an amp available for an audition. If he does, there's a RatShack on the way so cables can be had.

Do a search in the speaker forum to find out how to freshen them up. I think the cloth surrounds will need to be re-doped or else they leak air which kills the bass response. I have a pair of 24s (I think that's the number) that sound really nice since the re-doping. I loaned them to my brother about a year ago and still haven't been able to get them back. Congrats on a great deal.

Picked 'em up this evening

I couldn't get the seller to budge off the $20 asking price, but the condition was better than I'd anticipated. There is room for improvement in a few spots on the cabinets, but the grills and drivers are in fantastic shape.

I listened for a few minutes when I got home and was pretty pleased with the sound overall. Unfortunately, I'm without reliable amplification at the moment so a longer listen will have to wait.

You did well. I picked up a pair of KLH 24's earlier this year. Unfortunately, I fried one of the woofers. They don't handle much power; I wouldn't run more than 25 watts.

Check your local CL for a 10-20 watt amp or receiver. I am sure you can find one to drive those speaks for a little amount of cash.
