Looking to source a pair of replacement tweeters for KLH Model 6. ( Model 17, 20, 23 will work).

Have you verified the existing ones are not working? Most of the time the Model Six only needs new capacitors. Just asking.

I recently restored these including a complete recap with quality poly film caps. I had driven them with a few different vintage receivers and they sounded great and I was really enjoying how they sounded. Tonight I was using an AU717 a trusted friend and tech had rebuilt and something went wrong with the amp. The highs suddenly disappeared and I could smell overheated coil - volume was low -they were not being overdriven There is no sound from the tweeters now. I'll check the new caps in the morning but based on the smell I think the tweets are toast.

Sometimes it is possible to repair them if you can see where the wire to the voice coil is broken...

Find replacements, enjoy the Six’s, and then fiddle with the old tweeters to see if repairable. If so, you have a couple spares, if not, your Six’s are still singing anyway.

Good advice. Repaired spares on the shelf. I have them for my Fives, Twenty Threes, and Seventeens. It's fun to hear them working after repair, too!

So you've got examples of both style tweeters? Have you listened to see if
you can tell a difference in them? Would love to have more (or any) actual user
reports on that.

I tried both styles in a Model Seventeen a while back. One of them had the magnet centered in its 'sandwich', the other had the thinner plate on one side. I could not tell the difference subjectively. IIRC, both measured in the low 4 ohm range (4.2 or 4.3). Not scientific, but still...

Well, there's usually a comment that the voicing is different, at least enough
for KLH to make two different drivers. But maybe not that different... Thanks.

My ears are old too, and they've been exposed to Hendrix, Townsend, Garcia, the Stones, etc. So there is that...
