KLH model Five or Dynaco A-25

Hey John,

I've never seen the Radio shack versions. Do they copy the cabinets closely as well as the drivers/crossover?

What they copied from the Fives was the speaker array and crossover points, or close to it. Visually they look nothing like the Fives, more like a Pioneer CS-77 except the lattice grilles were molded plastic. Here's an old thread with pictures of a pretty rough pair but you'll get the idea.

Yes, I do have an extra room where these speakers rotate. In my bedroom system. In the end, after much hemming and hawing on my part, the sale is not happening.

Is the Island you are on Long Island? I grew up in Hauppauge.
Sounds like the right idea, given how torn you were between the two. :)

Actually, the "island" is kind of figurative, but I'm right next to Manhattan on NJ coast. I know Eastern Long Island pretty well and pass by Hauppauge during summer travels. Nice part of the island... quite a change to Nashville! How are you liking it there?

Stereofanboy, I do understand that these speakers won't be common to some areas, but you could always go with a fleabay or AK sale. And sometimes CL sellers will ship. In any case, a moot point as it looks like Flatwounds is going to keep them both. :thmbsp:

I have a pair fives that have been reburbished on the inside and outside and really enjoy them. I had a pair of Dynaco's years and years ago and liked them too. Overall I like the 5's better. These days I play my 5's with a pair a New Large Advents and find the two of them really sound great together.

That link to the older thread shows the Nova 8's pretty well. Mine can be seen in my avatar, I love their sound!

The A-25's are also really great.

I like it a lot. I've been here for about 13 years. It's a great, creative community, great quality of life, great music scene, etc.

But I do miss the ocean!

My KLH 5 "clone", the RS Nova 8, improved greatly with recapping , just like your KLH 5 did. Actually I only recapped one so far. I'll do the other this winter when the wind is howling outside. It's really interesting how well Radio Shack copied the KLH 5, perhaps someday I'll come across a real set of KLH 5's and compare them.

Those Nova 8's look cool. I'll bet the sound is very close to the KLH.

Happy listening!
