Klipsch Chorus I vs Chorus II

we had are share of Chorus enclosures fail due to the glue Klipsch chose/. The enclosures would start making funny mechanical noises which people thought was from the woofers. Nope it was the cabinets. The advantage to a Chorus over a II model is that. you can place the unit against a wall, the II model needs to be pulled away from the wall. But by moving the speaker different distance you can sort of tune it to the room for the smoothest response.

@danrclem... Thanks for the rest of the story. One thing that’s become clear to me is to expect some speaker turnover as tastes change. Plus there’s an irresistible urge to upgrade that seems to be pretty universal.

I’m in a happy phase now. I’ve had my Chorus for all of six days. They still sound amazing and I’ve only heard them with a small amp (NAD D 3020 v2). Next step is a bit more power, although the little NAD easily prompts the wife’s “turn it down” impulse way before the amp gets to 11.

I would add another option to this historic thread. The MAHL tweeter and new caps was a significant change for a more musical speaker. It took a good speaker and made it a great speaker. If you are interested in changes from the original k79, do yourself a favor and search for Dave A's MAHL tweeters with B&C DE10 drivers.

@Mr. Bissness... thanks for adding the tweeter option to the thread. I’ll look them up. I’m a sucker for the milled aluminum tweeter.

Please tell me about the new capacitors in the crossovers. Was this a DIY from scratch, a kit, or a purchase from, say, ALK?

Dave A. suggested the XOs caps and updates. I am sure he will be glad to offer his recommendations. If I knew his user name on here I would tag him....

@Mr. Bizzness... I did the research that you suggested. A simple Internet search got me right where I needed to be.

Dave A’s tweeters and the recap look very promising. Thanks so much for sharing.

I've owned both (at the same time) and think they sound much more similar than different. Yes, the II's go a little bit deeper than the I's but I could really only tell by having them side by side. Even then, the II's have to be properly placed in corners to reach deeper. The mids and tweets sounded pretty much the same to me. The I's are much easier to place / position due to the front firing ports vs the II's rear passive radiators.

Soundwise, I would be happy with either. However, I eventually sold the II's and kept the I's.
I prepared the Chorus I as well they are like the above response said that easy to place and sounds very identica.
