Klipsch Chorus II Rebuild Wrap-Up
As promised, back to replace the remaining electrolytic cap in the Chorus II crossovers.
First, here is a shot of what we want to get rid of; the 68uf green radial can. Because of size and mounting, I wasn't sure if I could find a suitable replacement that would fit. I decided to mount the replacement capacity elsewhere and use flying leads to attach it to the crossover (much like the Solens are already on the board).
About the only place to mount it was on the inductor. I was hesitant of this because I wasn't sure if there would be any type of interaction but the brain-trust here at AK assured me that it would be fine, so that's where it will go.
The second shot is the replacement. It is a decent 68uf electrolytic with a .47uf film & foil by-pass cap. In know, I know... some say by-pass is a waste of money but I had the caps, I had the time so why not. After all, JBL has used by-pass for years so there has to be something to it, right?
Third and fourth shot are of the parts mounted. Fifth pic is everything all ready to go back into their home. I put everything back together last night but it was too late to pass a signal. I will test this evening but I feel very confidant that all is well.
btw: the original caps measured 71.6uf on my meter. Not too bad after all these years.
At some point I may pull the passive and add some stuffing to the cabinet but for now, I'm just going to enjoy them paired with my Scott 299B.
