Klipsch Heresys with a drunken history

The cabinets were sanded and stained. On the left below is a sanded cabinet and on the right the original cabinet....

The speakers were tested and listened to over a wide range of musical genres. Before the crossover update, the speakers sounded muddy. No definite sound coming from a particular horn or woofer. I would not have used them. Period.

Recapped thanks to Bob Crites, the speakers are not the same ones we heard one week ago. The difference can not be understated. These speakers are so sweet!

The horns are clear; the woofers strong. The imaging is wonderful. I am particularly surprised by the loudness. Before the upgrade, these speakers were difficult to drive. Not loud. Now they are easy to drive. With Kevin's Sansui 9090 at 1 o'clock the neighbors we also enjoying the vintage Yes Album at 5 pm today. Maybe you heard it as well? :D

Now I understand the love of the Klipsch. The heresy's sound awesome. This adventure tells me that a crossover upgrade can mean a world of difference for a vintage speaker. I have a pair of large advents that may be next in line....

Looks like a quality restoration job with a happy ending to boot.
Now you got me considering send the X-overs on either my I's or II's out to Crites... :scratch2:

BTW, Kevin's negotiating with his brother who got the other pair to buy them, recap them, and do the double stack! Now that would be something, huh?

I see two Heresy that like new. What about the other pair??? Nice job on the restoration.:thmbsp:
I have seen Klipsch badges on Ebay. I will look again and see if I can find .just one. A pair of them are about $25.00.

Ebay item# 280666030921 seller Pioneta he has a lot of Klipsch parts etc old school seperates too.

Your finish and color look really nice, great job. Am wondering if you would be interested in a trade for your mid horns and drivers for a resin plastic version K701 horn fitted with your choice of a K53 driver (same used on the new H lll and Cornwall lll) or the K61 driver (used on the Quartet, Forte ll and Chorus ll mids)? Sorry for the delay in response. The speakers are in fact a unique mix of parts, ( E2 crossover, K-53 squawker w/aluminum horn, and K-77M tweeter horn.) my brother got the other two ( his were serial # 145x208 and 145x209, mine were 145x210 and 145x211.) i would like to keep these intact, and I did not know how lucky I was to find these. I am trying to buy the other two off him and I'll let you know how it goes. Oconnorweb had computor issues when I had typed a response a few weeks ago.

I would be happy to trade a set of either cast K700 with K53 or K61 drivers for a set of your K-53-K drivers with adapter snouts metal or plastic or a set of resin plastic K701 with the same choice of drivers. The horns alone average over $100 each on E-bay these days so you can make some coin out of the trade. Let me know when the time comes if you would like to do a trade. Best regards Moray James.
 
I have an update after 13 months... I got my brother to sell me the twin brothers
of the "Hersey 1.5's." Sure they have mold on the wood, and one of the dust caps
was eaten by mice in the garage behind a diner in New London, WI.

But I have a new rescue project and I will soon have stacked Heresey's with four consecutive serial numbers!

I would consider doing a two mid one tweeter set up so woofer mid tweeter mid woofer stick them in a five cubic foot box and they should sound very good. Keep us posted with your project what ever you decide to do and post lots of pictures. Best regards Moray James.
 
My neighbor who got me started on this hobby, taught me how to post pics yesterday on the Pioneer forum for my new addition PL 518. I will post pics when I stat the project in a couple weeks. Good to hear from you!:thmbsp:

I have my late Dad's PL-518X (Black)TT. There was a thread last year on how to service it and restore it, good read.
