Klipsch KG 4 vs. Advent NLA (New Large Advent) Walnut Bullnose

Good morning. I was hoping to get some quick opinions from the pros here. I'm running a Pioneer SX-780 with a Pioneer PL-610. I started the journey with a pair of KLH 23s. Decent sound but lacking in high-mids and highs (just kind of muddy) to my ears so I picked up a pair of Klipsch KG4 which I am currently using. I love the sound period. The dilemma enters as prior to picking up the Klipsch, I was hell bent on finding a pair of NLA bullnose. No luck so I ended up with the Klipsch. Long story short I've since found a pair of bullnose NLAs. Again I am happy with the Klipsch and to be honest they are the best sounding speaker I've ever heard personally. Good solid bass and unbelievably clear mids and highs. Just wondering if those Advents may in fact sound better with my setup and/or what peoples take was on the comparison between the two speakers. Thanks so much for any input.

Stick with Kg4
Advent ok can not hold candle to Klipsch IF you like the sound of 4
In early 2000s Kg4 cheap cheap cheap all day long then people catch on
I was buying pair pair pair once a week craiglist for never over $100 and flipping

NOW look at Kg4 values!
Only problem with Kg4 is cracking surrounds depending on environment treat lightly with silicone for protection
I had one gorgeous first year production pair with PWK on passive metal footers the BEST! : - )
Wish I had kept that pair : - (
I have Advent KLH AR too only maybe KLH come close
Keep Klipsch for all a roind best speaker my opinion

I've had both.
I bought the KG4's new and could never convince myself to like them. The horns sound harsh to me. I sold my KG4's and still use the Advents.
 
I love Advents for what they are and have had several pairs. None of them ended up in my main system even after recapping. I have 4.2's that I absolutely love with the Crites titanium horn diaphragms. If you like the 4's now, spend $60 on the diaphragms, recap them if you haven't, and you'll be blown away.

Surely you have a 2d system in basement or bedroom where you could put the Advents, have your cake and eat it too.
 
I had Kg4's and moved them out. Guess I am not a Horn's guy. To the OP, only you will be able to answer that question. Have a listen to the Advents and let us know what you think
 
As others have said they are two different animals. The Advents and KLH speakers will be a little more laid back and smooth, whereas the Klipsch's should be a more forward and dynamic. And yes, please recap the KLH's before writing them off!
 
The KLHs actually were recapped. I should have added that. I still find the Klipsch as you said to be more forward and I like that. If I can swing it I'll try and pick up the NLAs too to see how they compare to my ear. I gather there's no end to the speaker game. Thank you guys very much for your help. I really do appreciate it.

Advent has never done much for me. I have klipsch in my living room now. I'm actually listening to them as I post this.
 
What impressed me about the Crites diaphragms on the 4.2's was that the very high tinkly highs came back, and the harshness in the midrange (guitars etc.) was cut back. I had been listening to them since new in '91. Recapping helped some but the diaphragms made them an impressive speaker. I was not the only one who noticed - a whole group of AKers at an event were impressed. OK maybe there was someone too polite to say anything. The thing is, these were exactly the things Klipsch dislikers usually mention.

MOST please note I say MOST Klipsch bashing is tribal and coming from people who just as fanatical about ONE other make the ONE they own think greatest
I also read for years MOST also only hear the extreme Heresy or Klipshorn MAY BE if that do not have actual listen experience or own other models in between
MOST of time this is true
Paul Klipsch made some fine fine systems
If some one listen honestly and does not like that is their business and that is ok but in MY OPINION it is more often than not result of group think and seldom from owning in a really good system
AND Klipsch need the right space that often over looked never discussed by many
And one more time to prevent flame war
I am saying this is true MOST of the time! : - )
Some people just do not enjoy sound of horn loaded system and that ok too and that is honest

Former Klipsch salesman here. We called KG 4's the best $500 pr. speakers money could buy when they were new. I've also owned 4 pairs of them. Bob Crites sells a mod that really smooths out the horns.

That being said, Klipsch and KLH/Advent sound quite different. Both sound great, to me, but for different reasons.

Amazing is not it? Not long ago only 32 years at most
The quality level cost $500 and EVERY PIECE OF IT made in United States and some one still made a little profit

I found the KLH 23 and OLA to be fairly similar. In fact I preferred the 23s to the Advent speakers. If the 23s do not pass muster for you - in comparison to the KG4, I can't imagine that the Advent speakers will turn things around.

+1 on the Crites diaphragm upgrade. I had a pair of KG4's and they definitely improved the sound. Good speakers, especially with tubes and warm-sounding SS amps.
